I'm picking on class and not this transformation BS. If they continue with enforcing transformation we will remain losing. its simpe as that.

I would pick Keegan above any batsman in the current test squad. But he won't make my team's top 5. And since he cannot bowl I wont pick him at 6. He does not offer me enough.

That said, Keegan would make my 15/18 man squad for sure. He is a good backup to have.

Stubbs for test cricket?

And how is Potgieter different from Mulder if you're looking for an all-rounder?

What about Joshua Richards - opens for the Lions - 10 centuries and a FC average of 50?

I would give Peterson an extended run. He's shown enough potential.

I'll also start looking for a replacement for Ngidi. Getting slower - taking less wickets.

And also retain Bavuma. We'll need that stability while the young-uns gel.

Why not Stubbs for Test?, When your current test lineup is this k@k i would give anyone who shows promise a shot.

I play this game "Cricket Captain" and I siht you not Joshua Richards opens my Test batting, I completely forgot about him. He is a fantastic prospect and will definitely make my team. I would drop Stubbs for Richards and rearrange the lineup slightly.

And nope. No way Bavuma would remain in MY team or squad, he is there now and there is f@kol stability. In my books he is no better than Markram, and Markram can bowl a little at least. Markram has also shown much more promise in FC than Bavuma.
I noticed Ngidi getting slower, let's hope its dip. Stuurman is already knocking at the door so Ngidi will need to start upping his game a little.

We also still have Oliver but he also lost pace and not the intimidating bowler he once was.
It's a shame we lost Abbott. He was a class act.

Although, to be fair, Bavuma averages 45 over the last two years.

My test team would look like this (Ja, strangely they are almost all WicketKeepers, so hopefully we wont see alot of dropped catches :))

I would switch between Potgieter, Muthsumany and Harmer regarding what the pitch looks like. If it is more spin friendly obviously I would go with Muthusamy and Harmer.
George Linde is also someone I would rotate them with.
The lower order still feels a bit thin, so If a stronger batting lineup would be required, I would consider Markram at 6 or even Elgar with in mind they are going to bowl a few overs and their presence might calm some nerves. Hopefully they perform better against the older ball.

Our pace attack is world class though. Won't touch them. They had a difficult series, yes, But every one of them has proven themselves on multiple occasions.

None of rickelton or janneman opens in 4 day cricket. They both bat 4.

So not worth trying them at 1 or 2 since they do open in other formats?,
And Richards can open with Rickleton. Put Janneman in at 3, or leave Klaasen at 3 and Janneman at 4. At this stage I don't care. We have to try something.

Opening the batting in 4day/test cricket is a specialist job. Asking guys who do not do it regularly is setting them up for failure.

It's vastly different compared to opening in white ball cricket.

I know it's diffrent, but it will not be the first time we have experimented with openers. 2 quick wickets and your number 4 will be "opening". Anyone in your top order (1~4) should be able to face the new ball.

What message are you sending to your other domestic players then? Especially openers that have performed and scored runs in the 4day game.

correct, but that doesnt mean that they are interchangable.
Opening is specialist work

I want to say the problem is we dont have great openers, hence looking at other top order batsman who can fulfill the role. But point taken.

So this would look better :

1. J. Richards
2. P. Malan
3. J. Malan
4. R. Rickleton
5. K. Verreynne

The only other openers we have worth mentioning is Tony de Zorzi, But he averages below 40 (but he is not looking bad), we have Edward Moore, He averages 40.9. Neil Brand averages 41.6
Then we have Pieter Malan who at this stage averages 46, But they also gave 3 Tests and decided to drop him for a guy who averages 37 in FC. I would not mind seeing him back in the mix, at 33 age is not on his side, but he should still have 3 to 4 years left. (Same age as Erwee)
I would really like to know how Erwee got selected

If we look at the middle order, we also have Marques Ackerman, he averages 46

You also need to look at recent record, de zorzi has been in good form of late. I still dont trust the selectors, they will end up making up the same squad because it's home vs Windies.

Age and potential growth
 
for me, criteria would be stats over the last 2 seasons... 100s scored and averages...

That said, the Local 4day series quality has taken a big dip, so preference should be given to SA A games VS local 4 day games. OR CSA needs to make sure that we go back to strenght vs strength and have less teams in the league

The new DOC needs to get the SA A team as active as possible and get the right guys in there
