Hi all,

I know this must be one of the most common questions on this particular forum but I thought I'd ask it anyway considering the answer changes so often.

In short I am looking for a 4Mbps DSL Line with a 50GB unshaped data package.

I am getting my telephone line installed today after which I will be getting the DSL line installed through Telkom as this is the quickest way to get it up and running. And yes I could have gotten them installed at the same time however I only decided today to get the DSL line through Telkom and it seems I can't get them to install the DSL line today at the same time :(

Now onto the data ISP.

In the very beginning I was keen on Afrihost, especially with their 50GB + 50GB option which they have now extended until December. I heard great things about their service as well as their ClientZone and App. I then saw forums saying that they are shaped which discouraged me. Not sure if this shaping is also on the capped packages which makes me wonder about them again...

Up until Friday I was thinking of going with VOX bcz of the great things I've heard about them and their speeds on the Fatpipe account. The data roll over option is also very tempting. I've become a bt dissuaded from using them due to the problems that people are having with VOX and their speeds etc.

Any advice and recommendations is appreciated!

A mate of mine is on Afrihost's 50+50 Capped package and is extremely happy with it. I've heard their home Uncapped is problematic, but I've only heard good things about the capped products. Was actually considering it myself, if Telkom don't fix up.

thanks shanezn. I spoke to a mate of mine over the weekend who also has the 50+50 and is over the moon about it

I'm interested to see how long the double data promo lasts

Afrihost doesn't really have the best network. It has lots of moods. I'd go with Web Africa if you're on a budget or Vox if you can spend a bit more.

I've looked at both. Worried about VOX these days and their speeds that people have been having issues with.

WebAfrica is an option just haven't heard too much about them

Well I'm using their business uncapped and 100% happy. They don't really have issues as they use the IS network so everything just works.

Their capped accounts also give you free data to use after midnight.

On WebAfrica 40+40 (4mb). Been with TI / Mweb / Afrihost before and nothing has been as consistent as this. Can stream Twitch on high! Couldn't be happier. :D

I'm only using Afrihost capped because they're [currently] cheaper than WebAfrica. But I'm convinced WebAfrica has erm... better quality data :erm: I can't prove that though.

Just follow the Afrihost feedback thread. They have serious international connectivity issues. They can't find out if it's routing or capacity related though. People have been complaining about international issues for almost a year now on AH.

oh boy

who are you using Chevron?

When I was changing from TI, it was between WA & VOX. Went with WA as they just seem more transparent with their offerings.

I'll definitely consider them - perhaps their 60+60

For interest who is managing your line Telkom or WA?

WA.

Telkom were actually brilliant when I got my line. Ordered it on the Thursday, and by Monday it was installed. By Wednesday it was transferred to WA and they were managing the line.

Yeah hence my "theory" :D but I'm too lazy to do anything about it so I justify my laziness with saving a few Rand. I've got a 5GB WebAfrica account which I've been hanging onto through all these promotions they have. Once they're on par price wise I'll move over but until then I'll probably continue to forget to cancel my Afrihost 50GB capped account.

Oh on a side note, I'd recommend Vox fat pipe for "best" capped data.
