The R36S retro gaming handheld thread

Nice, its a tad bigger than the R36S, and the 1:1 screen is better for Vertical Arcade, GB, and GBC games. On N64, PSX, and SNES that extra screen is kinda wasted.

R36S R36Plus Comparison thanx to Handheld wiki

Its the same screen that's on my R46S. Personally, I prefer the 4:3 aspect screen on R36H Promax.

I must admit I have only seen these on Temu thought the form factor looked cool. Compared to wider handhelds.

Then did a bit of googling and found this thread thought I might as well buy an official one and now seeing theres more info here for like the adata sd cards to buy

Order placed, now just wait for delivery.

I'm not going to go back in this thread to read back. Anything that I should know? Set-up, can it be flashed with different OS? Downloading games, where?, etc

Everything you need is on

ArkOS Community Firmware is normally the best cause of ongoing and active support. Unless you want something more static then ROCKNIX or AmberELEC is for you.

Just ordered an R36s Plus from the BOYHOM store on AliExpress. Picked it for the wifi and slightly larger screen

I just found this on AliExpress:
ZAR1,717.69 | 2025 NEW 4"IPS Big Screen R36S Plus Retro Handheld Game Console Linux 64-bit System RK3326 Portable Pocket ARKOS 2.0 R36SPLUS

Now the wait. How long does it normally take? This is my first AliExpress order ever. Have used temu a fair bit though so expecting like two to three weeks. Hopeing someone here will say much faster than that 😁
Mine also has wifi...... but only on the box.

There are R36S's with Wifi chip pre-soldered but you are lucky if you get one of those. Seen some posts about people buying the chips and DIY it.

You need to get the RTL8188ETV

Personally, I opted for the lazy route:
Can confirm that it works on both R36S and R36H

Does any usb a to c adaptor work?

In theory, yes, but I personally used:

Awesome thank you for all the information sharing :)

Ordered some adata sd cards as recommended by you. Can I flash them and prepare them with roms while I wait for the console to arrive? Or do I need any of the original firmware that will come on the included sd card?

I haven't dabbled in custom firmware since my Galaxy S 3 when I was flashing custom ROMs weekly so very out of touch with this stuff

You can flash the OS so long, but sadly, you need to wait till after 1st boot to copy the games, as part of the install is to prep the partition for the games.

Oh ok I see. I guess I can download the ROMs in the meantime at least. I'm assuming it will come with hundreds of repeats would rather download what I actually want to play

The pc ports look very interesting especially Half Life

Personally never use their games as I have my own.
