@Fudzy:
All of the other providers actually engage in some way, shape or form with the mybroadband community. Iburst merely post notices in locked threads and no longer respond/engage. This is counter-productive IMO if you consider that a forum is intended for debate, opinion and interactivity. They even have their own locked section for this.
They have every right to market their product as the likes of Vodacom, MTN, Neotel, Telkom etc do (through paid for advertising). Nobody is against that I am sure (regardless of people's personal opinions about Telkom advertising), however my personal issue is that they only post notices in locked threads these days. Well FFS, I could log on to their website if I wanted that information, or they could merely email their client base. From a marketing perspective, they are shooting themselves in the foot with the mybroadband community IMO, and I am sorry to say, but so are mybroadband by allowing them to continue to pretend to engage with the broadband community this way. I understand that revenue is important as overheads must be met, but if they don't have the balls to engage with the community, then don't post here at all.
I would have no issue with them posting their notices here if they were actually prepared to engage thereafter, but they aren't. Other providers have realised that the flak they receive on this site is in fact a necessary evil if you want to call it that, to overcome the issues that directly affect their client base, or hamper them increasing their subscriber base. If iBurst believe that posting a notice on the board once in a blue moon about turning off important security updates in one's operating system, counts as engaging with a community, then they are well off base.
Just the other day I was asked by a family member whether they should consider iBurst (after hearing their low price advert). I flat out turned them away from iBurst based on the negative feedback I have read on these forums and news articles. Now had they engaged with the forum and been open about flaws and how they were working to overcome them, it would be a different story altogether. the long and the short of it is that iBurst have a bad rep amongst many people, and if they actually rose to the challenge of interacting with this community to solve the issues, or at least being more transparent about them, they would have a much better name in the market. I would sooner take a CellC data package before signing up with them, or recommending anyone else to do so as well...
