Ive had this problem for a while now.
When i try to send an email from my Iphone, i get:

"CANNOT SEND MAIL"
"The recipient (email address) was rejected by the server because it does not allow relaying."

I have this problem whether im on wifi or 3G.

I have both my ISPs outgoing mail servers loaded and it used to work fine.
Is this an Iphone problem, maybe something to do with the latest updates/ios4?

Any help would be highly appreciatted.

Let me add, when i send emails from my Gmail and Hotmail accounts on my phone, there is no problem.
Does that make it a service provider problem?

I use Web africa as my isp for wifi, and vodacom for 3G, but have my domain name and hosting with Axxess.
Would this cause the problem?

Generally that error message is related to using a different SMTP than your internet provider or being unauthenticated to the server in question

From Microsoft:

This behavior may occur if you have one of the following configurations:

* You are logged on to a Local Area Network (LAN) that has an Internet gateway and you try to send messages through an ISP's SMTP gateway.
* You are logged on to an ISP and you try to send messages through another ISP's SMTP gateway.
* You are using a cable modem or ADSL to get to another ISP and you try to send messages.

Connected to 3g,use smtp.vodacom.co.za
Connected to your dsl,use smtp.webafrica.co.za

I think it was mentioned a while ago that any smtp traffic on port25 on Webafrica's network is now redirected to their smtp servers regardless of the outgoing server you specified so you may be having hassles in that regard

Changing the smtp for Web Africa to smtp.webafrica.co.za seems to have fixed it.
