Good last round results in the URC from all our teams, apart from the Sharks who drew.
So the Q.F.'s look like this - :

Looking like 3 x Irish teams and 1 x SA team will stand after these rounds. I'm just not convinced The Sharks have what it takes.

They have all the players. World class players but they are just not where they should be. The whole coaching, players and environment is just not working it seems.

Likely without Kolisi and Bosch on top of Eben also not being available.

The Sharks have so many good players even non springbok players but it just doesn't come together on the field. I think the only thing that is keeping them in the contest is the quality players and set piece dominance at times. If they lose that they are total goners.

Ja, with the Sharks, I can't pinpoint the reason. As you say, quality players but results are poor. Maybe the coaching?
Stormers should beat the Bulls but the Bulls are showing decent form of late.
At least I can relax slightly as my Lions won't be taking any further part in this current URC season. But eish, our Currie Cup side ..... :(

I'm not so sure anymore. The previous coach was sacked and it's not improving. Neil Powel left the blitz boks and they are totally falling apart too so what is really happening.

Maybe just a bunch of strong personalities clashing during preparations or bad combinations I'm not sure but if you at all the ingredients they have everything (world class players, world class coaches, ton of money) but the recipe isn't working no matter how many times they try.

My take is that Powel should have either been DOR only or as backline/attack coach under someone else. I mean, when, if ever, was the last time he coached the 15-man game before taking over the role with the Sharks at the second-highest level there is?

Kolisi's injury raises the question of who the potential captain may be. Unlikely to be a front-ranker like Kitshoff because the Boks have a new front row pretty much every second game. Ah, there it is, possibly the only negative aspect of having such depth in the front row.

Vermeulen I feel has fallen to the periphery and will play more of a supporting role in the vein of Skinstad in 2007 and Brits in 2019. If that is the case he is not an option for the captain. If he is a regular starter he would be my bet.

Pollard, well, not sure about that one. Am is one of the few along with Etzebeth that command a starting position every game and can also captain the Boks.

I think they will give it to Etzebeth. Better to have a captain at the coalface.

My money is on Stick, the reason is that Siya is likely gone after the WC (at 32 he getting old for an international flanker without talent playing overseas) and we need at least between the coach and captain a AA appointment. Then who will be the next captain till the next WC in 2027?

Lukanyo Am would have been my pick but at 29 is also on the old side and Steven Kitshoff will be 36 in 2027. Damian Willems maybe?
Pollard is our official VC, he will most probably captain us at the 2023 WC. He is 28/turning 29 this year so he might have 1 x more in him.

What do you guys think about Swys de Bruins rant about the Munster try not counting.

People are arguing against his statement by using this law.

@cavedog should rather not read the twitter comments, it will upset you too much(~_^)

I've been fighting on social media with the Irish my man.

Swys is 100% correct. Even World Rugby explained this very same situation and said player in touch.

The law numbers have changed over time but World Rugby didn't change the clarifications requested by the Rugby Unions because it's an original official request so they can't just change documents. They should have added an * to say law numbers have changed over time since the clarifications were requested.

My money is on Am. Etzebeth too much of a hot head. I like a captain to can stay on the field right till the end, front rows like Kitshoff gets replaced in the second half.

That's the thing about Eben though, people have this idea that he gets sent off a lot or whatever but the stats don't back it up.

Boks by yellow cards.

7Bryan Habana
6Schalk Burger
5Victor Matfield
4Bakkies Botha
4Flip van der Merwe
3De Wet Barry
3Robbie Kempson
3Willie le Roux
3Francois Louw
3Breyton Paulse

Even Bakkies' record is better than Flip's since he played more.

Eben has 2 yellow cards in over 100 tests.

EDIT: I'd like to add that Eben's record is more remarkable for the simple reason that yellow cards are dished out so easily in the modern game.

Bryan Habana....., the OG Ronaldo of Rugby Union.

Jason Ryan staying with Scott Robertson's coaching team. His defence coach from the Crusaders will be joining him as well as Leon MacDonald, current head coach at the Blues.

Jason Holland, the Hurricanes' head coach will coach the attack.

Three SR teams without head coaches then.

Sounds like a formidable team. Have we ever lured three SR head coaches for Bok coaches in this country at once?

Are you saying that these coaches have shown interest to be the next Bok coach?

No, I'm saying from next season the All Blacks will have three current Super Rugby franchise head coaches as head coach and assistant coaches.

I posed the question of whether we've ever had so many franchise head coaches involved with the Boks at once.
