The SA Politics Thread Part 3

So you are saying Trump's supporters and the UK Conservative Party's supporters are not University educated?

Well yes, polls suggested that Trump supporters, on average, had lower levels of education than Democratic supporters. The UK picture is more complex because you have lots of "establishment money" types voting Conservative who all went to Eton then Oxford/Cambridge but also in the 2019 election, attracted a lot of working-class supporters who tend to have lower levels of educational attainment.

Malema went from being a woodwork struggler to post graduate, instead of hating on him for that you could be encouraging President Moonshot to give it a shot so that you can also have a leader to be proud of.
Why would he need to get a degree? Not sure what that has to do with our discussion either.

To stop the envy his supporters have over other more educated party leaders?
Steenhuisen only has a matric too. Malema doesn't need a degree, he's a very intelligent person (albeit misguided and I don't align in the least with his views). That said, degrees and doctorates take that intelligence and fine tune it. They also build a stamina for learning and growth of ideas. Never to be scoffed at. If I'm hiring, and the one candidate has a phd over the other, I know who'll get the job.

What will he have to fall back on if he loses his job in the DA?
His welfare is really no concern of mine. I'm sure he can look after himself without a degree. Looking at his expanding girth I think he's an ably gifted provider.

Again, more "educated" leaders doesn't automatically = better leaders so I certainly don't envy any of them.

Because I'm university educated and all my friends are, I know what their predominant views are on issues and 99% of them would regale at McKenzie's manifesto, especially regarding the death penalty and xenophobia. Really not hard to understand. For example, university-educated people aren't really threatened by foreigners taking "their" jobs.

Anyone in SA who advocates the return of the death penalty has lost any grasp of reality and should be ignored.

Depends on the job. Plenty of jobs where he/she wouldn't be the best fit.

Yes, we know that the Constitutional Court has declared the death penalty unconstitutional, but do you think Gayton will tell his supporters that? In a society which experiences very high crime, some people understandably want a different approach to crime and may not have full knowledge about why the death penalty idea wouldn't be practical in SA.

Ah yes, what fun. Suspending the Constitution sounds fun!

That probably won't lay the groundwork for a dictatorial regime...

Is it even possible in SA? Uncle Gayton then rants about a State of Disaster (which is Constitutionally provided...) that'll somehow supersede the Constitution... I don't think it works that way...

I think State of Emergency can suspend the Constitution.

I was taught that being brave enough to face the consequences of your actions and be accountable, no matter how uncomfortable it is, is what makes one a leader, do you think John running away from accountability is a good character trait for a leader?
Like Ramaposer who did not want to rock the boat with the Gupta's and Eskom. he was too cowardly to speak out. Not forgetting Zuma who Ramaposer wanted to see his term out and referred to him as a leader he looks up to. Ramaposer, that leader ?

I was taught that if you have nothing good to say, rather say nothing at all. So you believe making promises that you have no intention (nor ability) to keep is a good character trait?
Before 1994, you were probably taught lot of things. Childhood indoctination is not always good.

I think State of Emergency can suspend the Constitution.

Only for a very short period, and there is an insane level of oversight on it, and even then the Constitution is still largely applicable during a State of Emergency.

Gayton is doing his standard populist horseshyte, and the masses will lap it up because its a "quick fix", but it is incredibly worrying that Gayton would stand up and say such things... it should be a huge strike against his name in terms of the IEC and his eligibility to be a politician.
