Yes yes I know it's a sci-fi film but this is a great documentary describing the awesome realism and theoretical concepts added inside the movie. And I'm posting this in the science section for some in depth discussion rather than just movie reviews.

I think the narrator was talking about the surface of the Earth, whereas your second quote is referring to that which lies beneath the ocean. IMHO.

The depths of the ocean is more foreign to us than the Moon.
