The SKA and tech development in SA

Cool, am very interested in this, will be looking up on it and following it.

If it does come here it will be a very good step.

I keep my eye on this whole thing as well..

Would love for SA to get the SKA, it would mean a huge amount to the scientific community in this country.

From the article:

A few years ago South Africa embarked on a bid to host the Square Kilometer Array (SKA), the world’s largest electron telescope. The bid has been narrowed down to South Africa and Australia. The question which is now being asked is “if we don’t get it would the investment have been worthwhile?”

It's not an electron telescope..... it's a radio telescope

If this was an IPO I would buy a share in the SKA..

I would also buy a share in INGA hydro-electric project ( if it ever ) happens.

me love sou Africa

Yeah...I agree it's a radio telescope. I guess they meant to write electromagnetic but that probably would also have induced objections.

It is a really interesting project. Young recent graduate engineers (mostly electronic) have the opportunity to get involved through some postgraduate bursaries. I think it would be a very good move (now and fir future career) - if the stuff there tickles your fancy.

The relevance of the SKA is the impact it had on the government now allowing the landing of the fiber optic cables. if it was not for the SKA, progress would have been much slower. think about it this way; without the cables like SEACOM, we would not stand a change even being shortlisted with Australia. Nelson Mandela would net even be able to influence this decision.

First check your spelling & comprehension before we even consider cables ;)

Who gives a fsck about Nelson, he is not going to be around much longer in all honesty.
