LOS ANGELES - Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith, whose apparently happy marriage and film star children made them the paragons of Hollywood families, are to separate, In Touch magazine claims


The split, which was not confirmed by representatives of the couple, would end 13 years of marriage.

Just weeks ago, the Smiths appeared on the cover of Architectural Digest to display their mansion, designed as a family retreat to represent an "infinite cycle of love".

Smith, 42, is one of Hollywood's most bankable stars with roles in Hitch, Independence Day and I Am Legend.

Pinkett Smith, 39, has starred in movies including The Matrix Revolutions, Reign Over Me, and Collateral.

They have two children together: Jaden, 13, the star of the 2010 remake of Karate Kid and The Day the Earth Stood Still, and Willow, 10, who had a music hit with the song Whip My Hair and also starred alongside her father in I Am Legend.

Yesterday people on social networks had a lot to say about the couple's separation.

"If Will Smith and Jada can't make it, what hope is there for other totally fake couples?" tweeted Julius Sharpe.

"Will Smith & Jada broke up after 13years of marriage & ppl acting all surprised like this doesn't happen in households all around the world," said @megasas on twitter.

"Must say I am really whipped like Willow's hair bout Will Smith and Jada Pinkett separating. They seemed so happy together," tweeted @craigjacobs.

Another distraught fan @mel6291 tweeted: "Genuinely upset that Will and Jada Smith have broken up - thought they were the perfect couple?! Do happy endings actually exist?".

Sechaba @AllNation said: "Is Will Smith pulling a Ricky Martin on Jada? No wonder the poor kid whipped her hair back and forth!".

"If true that will smith & jada are over, I'm losing all hope. They said they'd never divorce. I looked up to them as a couple! #whymarry?" tweeted @Brittany Wrenn.

I heard on the radio this morning that its not true and they have released a statement saying that they are not splitting up.

I couldn't care less to be honest, but there you go.
 
I love how "random person #47 tweets: <blah blah>" has become the norm for journalists to fill their page.

Please note: We don't g.a.f. about random people's opinions. We read news articles for educated (I use this term loosely) pieces.
 
Damn.. Haven't thought about the Smiths in years. Thought they would have been hit by a bus by now.

Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith are doing just fine, thank you very much.

After a tabloid claimed Tuesday that the couple have separated after almost 14 years of marriage, the couple fired back in a joint statement to Us Weekly. "Although we are reluctant to respond to these types of press reports, the rumors circulating about our relationship are completely false," Smith, 42 and Pinkett Smith, 39, told US Weekly. "We are still together, and our marriage is intact."

After meeting on the set of Fresh Prince of Bel Air in 1990, the superstar couple tied the knot on New Year's Eve in 1997, and are parents to actor-singer kids Jaden, 13, and Willow, 10, plus Trey, 18, Will's son from his first marriage. Indeed, there were no signs of trouble when Pinkett Smith recently appeared on CNN's Piers Morgan Tonight -- with her man proudly watching in the wings. "He stood in the wings and flew in to be by her side," a show source says. "They were super affectionate...They were like teenagers, so in love!"

Back in June 2009, Pinkett Smith shot down speculation about her marriage.
"I've heard all the things -- their marriage is not real, he's gay, she's gay, they swing," the Hawthorne actress said. "But at the end of the day, people have to believe what they have to believe. I'll tell you what, it's too hard to be in a pretend marriage. Life's too short for that one."
