The Starfield thread

To change FOV settings:

in Documents/MyGames/Starfield create a text file and name it "StarfieldCustom.ini"

inside the text file, add this:

[Camera]

fFPWorldFOV=100.0000
fTPWorldFOV=100.0000

Definitely doing this.

For those with iffy performance, this will likely decrease your FPS if you increase FOV.

My initial thoughts after playing 2.5 hours:
  • Smooth as butter
  • No bugs yet.
  • Some great graphics and so far one disappointing area. Space ship inside looks really great. The same with the indoor mining building/s. Also great visuals around the New Atlantis city CBD area... but when I left the lodge to explore the wildlife of New Atlantis and the garden area it was all a bit underwhelming. Stiff trees (no movement/wind) and water at the sea/beach area. Skyrim had much better outdoor scenery... so how come the New Atlantis trees and sea/beach area look so dull and almost low quality? Please note - I am playing on a Series S. But would be surprised if New Atlantis wildlife and gardens looks much better on other devices. I feel they spent a lot of time on the city but neglected the outdoor area. But being an open world area to explore I guess there are system limitations as the city is always in the background (using resources?)
  • Gunplay was smooth and felt proper.
  • However the AI or behavior of the space pirates I met thus far was a bit weird. Sometimes come running at you and just stand in the open shooting. Others try to hide. I guess as in real life there are also some really brave and idiotic okes in Starfield?
  • The sound effects and sound track/music... Oh WOW. Amazing. Love it!! Great space sounds and booster/engine and gun sounds and outdoor sounds. Soundtrack and music thus far brilliant. Creates a great atmosphere.
  • Ship/level/building/room design so far - great. Lots of love and detail was put into this. Feels like real people are staying there and using the offices/rooms/labs. Tissues and handcream anyone? :)
  • Space combat.... hmmm. Jury still out. A bit of a learning curve there to figure out all controls etc. Certainly looks visually impressive.
  • Space travel... to early to say? Perhaps a bit limited based on my very early experience? Can one fly around a planet and to other planets/moons without the use of fast travel? Would surely take some time if it's indeed possible!
  • Third person mode - My preferred mode for space travel - to see my ship in space - but the movement of the character model in third person mode is a bit weird/wacky. Animation feels a bit ... strange.. haha. Not a deal breaker however as this is a 1st person game imo.
Overall impressed. Going to put a lot of hours into this one...

If you'd rather not participate in the thread, that's fine. But don't spam it with inanities. This is nonsense.
I dare you to find a post from him that isn't nonsense. Anywhere.

Anyway, I'm enjoying the game so far. Gunplay is excellent imo.

Starfield should run fine actually, the only hard requirement is probably an SSD which even I have now.

But I doubt I am going to bother until sometime next year after the first batch of updates rewrites basically half the game or something. Still havent bothered with Cyberpunk and still doubt I will.
Your 4GB GPU will not play Starfield.

This!!!

Can't wait to take the Rocinante into the gate to Ilus IV or maybe even explore Laconia as a Belter, right after I killed some Ferengi with my Romulan bird of prey.

This is something that keeps being said but.... it never really happens. At best you get clunky mods that deluge you with anachronisms. But I suppose that's what keeps some players come back for the next slow endorphin drip experience.

Maybe I'm just cynical after FO4 that barely missed being a disaster I dunno but the reviews thus far have not been encouraging. All the praise seems empty and all the problems seem exactly as I predicted.

It's not often that you feel such a profound joy like this. Been playing for a couple of hours and I've got say I'm so happy Game Pass covered most of the cost for this game!

We'll give it some more time but it's a bit soulless atm.
