The Substance - Movie

Done & dusted.

Cronenberg-esque body horror. Completely off the charts ito of narrative, direction & visuals, You need a strong stomach & yet I could not look away! Easily the most original, left-field & f'ed up film of '24! Go for it but take heed, don't have a chow while watching! The special effects were damn good, Demi Moore & Margaret Qualley were phenomenal. Tons of nudity & graphic scenes. There is a ton of depth here.

Some trivia.

Ray Liotta was cast in the film in February 2022. He died in May that year before he could film his scenes. Dennis Quaid replaced him as a result. He is still mentioned in the director's "Thank You"-Notes during the credits
 
Margaret Qualley certainly has some strong aspects to the performances she brings to screen.
 
You can clearly see the director took her inspiration from The Thing, The Elephant Man, 2001:A Space Odyssey, The Fly, Pulp Fiction, Death Becomes Her to name but a few.

I have been waiting for this for some time, and can't say I was disappointed. This movie was interesting to say the least. Overall I enjoyed it. It's pretty original and keeps you interested, Margaret Qualley being very, very soft on the eye definitely helps. I did not enjoy the ending that much, it was completely over the top, but I suppose it fits in with the movie. If you're going to watch this with a "that's not realistic" attitude, then this movie is not for you. Nothing in this movie is realistic or makes any sense whatsoever.
Probably the best horror of 2024, Edges Alien Romulus for me.

Underwhelming horrors this year have been "In A Violent Nature", The omen, Abigail. The biggest letdown being Longlegs. What a POS movie. It had so much potential.....
Late night with the Devil was also nothing to write home about.
Oddity was okay.
I hated Terrifier 1 & 2, but it seems like the 3rd might be a little better.
 
Watched it today and while it started good, as mentioned above the ending was over the top.. I'm not a big movie watcher but it did keep me entertained for a while.

I watched Terrifier 1. I didn't enjoy it, it's just gore prn? Please let me know if T3 is any better. One of my favourite bands did a thing, and I really want to watch the movie. I think the one scene in Hostel 3 just completely putt me off gore stuff.
