The Syrian Conflict Thread

How, though? That would mean bombing Assad's forces and his supporters directly.

Which they can't do, the RAF only have authorisation to bomb Daesh/IS, Parliament refused permission for them to bomb Syrian forces the last time this was brought up.

The exact wording of the motion passed:

That this House notes that ISIL poses a direct threat to the United Kingdom; welcomes United Nations Security Council Resolution 2249 which determines that ISIL constitutes an 'unprecedented threat to international peace and security' and calls on states to take 'all necessary measures' to prevent terrorist acts by ISIL and to 'eradicate the safe haven they have established over significant parts of Iraq and Syria'; further notes the clear legal basis to defend the UK and our allies in accordance with the UN Charter; notes that military action against ISIL is only one component of a broader strategy to bring peace and stability to Syria; welcomes the renewed impetus behind the Vienna talks on a ceasefire and political settlement; welcomes the Government's continuing commitment to providing humanitarian support to Syrian refugees; underlines the importance of planning for post-conflict stabilisation and reconstruction in Syria; welcomes the Government’s continued determination to cut ISIL’s sources of finance, fighters and weapons; notes the requests from France, the US and regional allies for UK military assistance; acknowledges the importance of seeking to avoid civilian casualties, using the UK’s particular capabilities; notes the Government will not deploy UK troops in ground combat operations; welcomes the Government's commitment to provide quarterly progress reports to the House; and accordingly supports Her Majesty's Government in taking military action, specifically airstrikes, exclusively against ISIL in Syria; and offers its wholehearted support to Her Majesty's Armed Forces.

Why would Assad support Iraqis trying to attack the Shiite government inside Iraq?

Its in the article and also the article explains its more likely corrupt Syrian army officials than Assad himself. Assad was in denial.

I didn't get that from the article even after re-reading it. From the way they've phrased it, it makes it sound like Assad is complicit and his denials are evidence of the complicity.

please dont tell us you are actually sitting there laughing out loud at that attempt at humour - or was the little "lol" injected in attempt to encourage others to maybe find it amusing - you know, like those live game shows on tv having an audience manager to instruct the audience when to laugh / clap / jump to their feet etc

but here, this is probably more accurate:

You have over 25000 posts and a file named 'lol' upsets your gravy train. Now I know why you so quick with the insults

that aside, any chance of a coherent sentence, you know, one that people have some prospect of understanding what you are saying ?

The Isis papers: leaked documents show how Isis is building its state

Blueprint lays bare new contours of Islamic state, complete with civil service, regional government and Soviet levels of economic control.

A leaked internal Islamic State manual shows how the terrorist group has set about building a state in Iraq and Syria complete with government departments, a treasury and an economic programme for self-sufficiency, the Guardian can reveal.

The 24-page document, obtained by the Guardian, sets out a blueprint for establishing foreign relations, a fully fledged propaganda operation, and centralised control over oil, gas and the other vital parts of the economy.

The manual, written last year and entitled Principles in the administration of the Islamic State, lays bare Isis’s state-building aspirations and the ways in which it has managed to set itself apart as the richest and most destabilising jihadi group of the past 50 years.

Together with other documents obtained by the Guardian, it builds up a picture of a group that, although sworn to a founding principle of brutal violence, is equally set on more mundane matters such as health, education, commerce, communications and jobs. In short, it is building a state.

As western aircraft step up their aerial war on Isis targets in Syria, the implication is that the military task is not simply one of battlefield arithmetic. Isis is already far more than the sum of its fighters.

The document – written as a foundation text to train “cadres of administrators” in the months after Isis’s leader, Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, declared a “caliphate” in Iraq and Syria on 28 June 2014 – sketches out how to organise government departments including education, natural resources, industry, foreign relations, public relations and military camps.

@grant Yeah I don't get why the lol upset you either. People lol all over the forum but I haven't noticed you have a go at them so it was clearly personal.

Also not sure why anti-ganda was banned. Sure, he seemed to have a contrarian view but unless I missed it, I didn't notice anything warranting a ban. Especially considering what some other forumites get away with.

No previously banned MyBroadband members are allowed to join.

But that is 1/10th of the story and I doubt you'll find out more any time soon.

to begin with, it does not upset me at all, it's infantile and childish adding "lol" to little sentences - really, is the person actually laughing at all when they post that stupid "lol" - let alone actually laughing out loud.
explain to me, what is the purpose of adding "lol" to a statement you make - i'm very keen to learn this.

because you have not noticed it, does not mean i have not had a go at them. if you are that interested to find out, go though my post history and then perhaps amend your allegation.

to the best guess, antiganda was banned as a result of being a clone of multiple other previously banned clones - but why are you even asking me, ask the mods or rpm

Sorry ;).

AntiGanda is banned? Considering that was just the last in a long line of banned usernames it's not surprising, he posted a lot of propaganda BS and was quite stroppy in defending stuff proven to be nonsense.

I'm sure we'll see a new reiteration of the user fairly soon...

Iranian jets going to Syria? That could cause some issues...

Israeli remained officially silent on Sunday over reports from last week that Iran will send fighter jets to Syria to take part in Russian air strikes against rebel organizations.

According to an unconfirmed report in the Kuwaiti newspaper Al-Rai, two Iranian squadrons of Sukhoi fighter jets will be based in the Western Syrian city of Homs.

US-led airstrikes 'kill 26 civilians' in Syria

Twenty-six civilians in Syria have been killed in airstrikes believed to be conducted by the US-led coalition against the so-called Islamic State.

The Syrian Observatory of Human Rights has accused the coalition of killing seven children and four women, with 17 people unaccounted for.

Rami Abdel Rahman, founder of the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, told the Guardian that Isis is only in control of the outskirts of Al-Khan, “which is why all of the deaths were civilians.”

A US Central Command spokesman said that the military would investigate the allegations.
