NATO says to meet under Article 4 to discuss Syria at Turkey's request

NATO ambassadors will meet on Friday to hold consultations about developments in Syria under Article 4 of the alliance’s treaty at Turkey’s request, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said, after the killing of 33 Turkish soldiers in a Syrian air strike in the Idlib region.

“Today, the #NATO Council meets at Turkey’s request to consult under Article 4 of NATO’s founding Washington Treaty on the situation in Syria,” Stoltenberg wrote on Twitter. Under Article 4, an ally can request consultations if they believed their territorial integrity, political independence or security is threatened.

Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu had spoken to Stoltenberg by phone late on Thursday.

Maybe a swap . Turkish troops leave Syria and the millions of Syrians refugees are allowed back into Syria with a guarantee they won't be indiscriminately slaughtered by the regime.

Turkey is still playing all sides. Who knows what they actually want.

And yet they're happy to invade Northern Syria, and interfere in Syria in general.

Oh, and they broke the 2016 agreement with the EU. They're using this purely as a weapon to strongarm the EU into agreeing with its war.

Yeah, I don't think you can blame Turkey alone for the troubles in Syria given that Russia, the USA are also deeply involved. Turkey has a very large border with Syria, they have to be involved to protect themselves. Turkey also currently hosts more refugees than any other country by far and has a limit. Without ongoing support from the international community what are they supposed to do? They already have way over 3 million refugees with millions more on the Syrian border trying to get in.

If I were to gravitate to a news organisation for touchy-feely reasons, it would probably be the BBC (largely because of its history). However, this copiously linked and cross-referenced post presents some of the reasons I tend to triple check any Beeb (and other) articles with foreign political content - particularly when they seem to encourage an emotional response.

Update (September 29, 2020): A few days after this article was published, the authenticity of these leaked materials was indirectly confirmed by the British government, which reported that hundreds of Foreign Office documents detailing its Syria propaganda operations were hacked in an alleged cyber attack.

The British at it again.

They seem to have a penchant for sowing chaos and anarchy in other countries.
 
All of this pales in comparison to the even greater and far reaching propaganda campaign by the West to condition billions of people everywhere to not only be afraid of standing up against popular rhetoric and acceptable social norms, but to brainwash them into accepting it with open arms.

This global thought conditioning which is being spewed at us every single day is designed to do many things but first and foremost designed to foment an US vs THEM mindset; either you are with us or you are against us.

The true survivors in today's and tomorrow's world are those that recognise this insidious campaign for the danger that it is, who show others the light in the darkness and those who will refuse to bend the knee no matter the cost.

I tend to agree and I think the ShadowGate post (moved to "Off-topic") explains a larger context. Worth exploring (in a separate thread) is which sources are trustworthy or at least useful for cross-checking. Even the brightest minds will fail in the absence of good data.
 
OPCW Syria whistleblower and ex-director attacked by US, UK, France at UN
The whistleblower, Ian Henderson, is a South African ballistics expert. That this has received close to zero coverage in South Africa is an indictment on journalism.
His original report (original PDF available here), written in fairly polite engineering terms, concluded that the "chlorine bombs" were staged.
The WikiLeaks files relating to this (and a reminder of why WikiLeaks is important) are available here.
The aforementioned memo states that around 20 inspectors have expressed concerns over the final FFM report, which they feel “did not reflect the views of the team members that deployed to Douma”. Only one member of the fact finding team that went to Douma, a paramedic, is said to have contributed to the final version of the report. Apart from that one person, an entirely new team was gathered to assemble the final report, referred to as the “FFM core team”.

That people have essentially allowed themselves to be gaslit to this extent leaves me with little hope for the future of "Western" journalism (speaking as an 1820 settler descendant). On the plus side, S.A. is allegedly non-aligned.
