...so the rest of us don't have to try and sift through all the whingeing to find decent threads to read...

File it all here, guys and gals, all the complaints we've heard a gazillion times before. Go for it! Spam the thread to death! Go, go, go...!

The only complaint I have is about the whining users/potential users.
Either they don't do enough research before complaining about something irrelevant or they've failed to use a little bit of common sense with regards to whatever their complaint is about, be it an inability to get through to the callcentre, a failed smart-card activation, distorted picture during a lightning storm or any other kind of ridiculous complaint that wouldn't exist had a small amount of logical thought been applied.

My feeling eggzakkery. So it would be nice dump the rubbish in here to allow us to read and concentrate on more interesting issues.

Still unable to get activated

Hi.

I have been trying for 11 days now and still no joy! I have sent emails, sms's, called the support centre and still not watching. Here is the emails I have sent to ALL the email addresses I could find for Top Tv.

Dear Sir/Madam.

I need to vent my utter frustration and unfortunately your email seems to be the last resort. I purchased a decoder 11 days ago and subsequently called the support number to do the application. After two days I managed to speak to Swazi who was very helpful and most apologetic. I received my customer number as well as a list of installers. On contacting them they all told me that they were unable to help due to admin. problems with Top TV (waiting for training, authorization etc.) Yesterday (9 days later) I decided to do the installation myself being experienced and qualified in communications networks. I then called the support centre to activate and finally got through to a Phyllis (after 45 minutes). She took my details and said someone would call me back. This morning I called again as I had still not received a call. After 26 minutes I got through to Phyllis again. She was surprised that no one had called me back and I insisted that she put me through to someone to do the activation as I could not go through this mess again. She said she was putting me through to Clyde. I waited another 20 minutes without Clyde coming on the line. I have since tried calling the call centre several times to no avail. I have sent emails to [email protected] on the 4th May 2010 as well as this morning. My email shows they have been read but I have not received any reply. I have also sent an sms to activate yesterday with the same results. Please can you assist me or at least give me a contact number/email address of someone in management who can assist me.

Nicely phrased letter and definitely a valid complaint. I can't understand why Phyllis has been unable to activate your account over the phone.

Hi Kheiron. Thanks for your prompt response. I just wish I had the same from Top Tv! Do you have any ideas? It is also quite frustrating with all the threads that have been posted regarding Top TV to try and determine where to post problems. Sifting through 2476 threads is impossible. Whoa! Hold on!! Top TV has just called me. Nicole says it will be activated within 20 minutes. Let us pray! Will let you know what the outcome is! Cheers

Ahh yes...... the cheery thrills and existement of a customer getting a call back from a TopTV consultant.......

.... brings tears to my eyes.

Our little boy's all grown up................ *wipes tears away from eyes*

And my little complaint........ all went well saturday during the installation, called to activate, got that right, the guy told me that I had to pay R 168.18 on monday, which I did, and wow, to my surprise I get an SMS last night telling me to pay 191.73 within 24 hours. WTF ???? do I really have to spend another 15 to 20 minutes to fix this. I did everything excactly as I was supposed to, use correct numbers everything, oh yes, and I am not mr Hart........, suddenly I am hErt...... sounds like a Baas Ted / Bastard scenario.... and here I thought I was one of the lucky few.

Hi there. Yes I am now connected. Nicole called me and apologised profusely. I am normally a very patient and forgiving man but this was a bit over the top. I am happy with the channels and reception quality. I used an old 60cm DSTV dish with the existing LNB. I installed, set it up and got perfect signal and it took 30 minutes. It is quite simple if you follow the guidelines. The one installer I spoke to said they were waiting for "special" equipment to find the signal and do the alignment? A load of rubbish if you ask me. Anyhow I am going to upgrade from the R159 package at the end of the month as my grandkids want the kiddies channels.

Did you read my post? I think not! R300.00 in cell phone calls and twelve days later is considerable reason to be frustrated, and this is not a rant as you so eloquently put it. If you do not have anything constructive, or positive to say - refrain from commenting.

I joined TopTv a few months ago. I was a DSTV subscriber and thought TopTv had competitive pricing for their packages - which is totally true by the way. However, Cape Town is known for it's wet and windy days. And on days when it is windy or even just raining a little- then the TopTv frequency gets lost - the picture freezes up - the sound disappears- In fact the reception is so bad, that I switch the decoder completely off when it is windy or rain. What have I done about this? I called the TopTv call center - complained about the poor reception on windy and rainy days. They told me to call my installer. The installer came out to my house and told me that there isn't much that they can do-as it is a general problem with the TopTv reception. The installer said that TopTv has received numerous complaints about bad reception within the Cape Town Area. The installer nevertheless got onto the roof and made some adjustments to the satelite dish. This has not made any difference. Why does TopTv not take responsibility for the poor quality reception. If the installer thinks it cannot be fixed, can't TopTv come up with some technical gizmo? Or do I go back to being a DSTv subsctriber: My TopTv Customer Account number is 550144868

What a surprise. TopTv got an installer to contact me today 26th January 2011. The installer said that the dish that are sold with the decoder @R299.00 is not the best quality on the market, hence the reason for the poor reception on windy days. He suggested that I opt for a dish of better quality that he can provide at as cost of R450.00 - :"(......I contacted TopTv - they said they will look into this - My satellite setup is still under warrantee, and they did not give such instruction to the installer. Wow....what can I say...I am now waiting for TopTv to get back to me after they speak to the installer. Sounded as if the installer are doing business on the side :?

I also got an installer that charged me R300 bucks for a "special extended pole" that looks like he just welded a peace of pipe to an existing bracket and that peace isn't even galvanized. it was completely rusted in about 30days. Now that a good face to look at from the road. I had to make my own brackets just to keep the dish still. What happened to service and quality. I mean if i start something new, i would make sure the quality of the product are up to standard and then from there it must just get better.

+1

Wait... you can use an existing DSTV dish? I wanted to swap over to top tv (since I dont really watch tv anyways) but when I asked a sales dood about the dish thing, he said no I need a different dish for top tv. So I didn't bother since swapping the dish would be too much effort. (live in apartment, dish mounted on side ... 5 stories from the ground)
