The truth about DStv cutting channels

/checks TV guide

Good riddance.

Babies Behind Bars, I Love You But I Lied, Pawn Stars, American Pickers, Mountain Men, Married at First Sight, The Wrong Car etc.

Looks like a load of trash. And hasn't History been slated everywhere for not being so much about, you know, history?

Edit: I see in the other thread that people actually watch this stuff. Bummer then.

MultiChoice’s senior manager for corporate communications, Benedict Maaga told MyBroadband the decision formed part of a plan to refresh the DStv line-up.

Independent TV expert Thinus Ferreira reported that the real reason for the decision is that negotiations between A&E Networks and MultiChoice broke down.

History still shows a lot of good doccies and other shows. And shows like Pawn Stars, Pickers etc are about history. History isn't all about war and the ancients

Read: the end is fast approaching and DSTV are losing their exclusive rights to channels and shows.

There's an element of history, but don't kid yourself into thinking it's proper history. I never learned about storage wars in history class in school. They should stick that carp on a separate channel, say History Reality or whatever...

I believe there are 2 or even 3 History channels, in the US anyway. One is the trashy one (that we have/had) and another focus' on military history. There are also intentional History channels.

Of course it's not proper history but it's still history. And they don't really teach you any of the stuff on History channel in school. That's why documentaries exist. We mostly learned SA history in school.

Storage Wars is probably the biggest load of crap on History though.

The curse of oak island and forged in fire was the only reason I held onto Compact Plus vs just plain Compact. Oh well... I suppose I can now save a few bucks.

A&E Networks said in a statement that South African fans of its channels “could soon miss out on the thousands of hours of new and unique shows”
.

Ha ha... IPTV

Not a chance my friends.

Thank God, no more of that Ancient Aliens and other pseudo-science crap that the History Channel keeps repeating.

Unfortunately it’s a ratings game and actual factual documentaries are more expensive to produce then these reality tv shows and pseudoscience docs. It’s a pity the BBC was initially cock blocked by ofcom (UK’s ICASA) to create a world wide streaming service. That would have been awesome!

Maybe the History channel will make a documentary about DSTV...

Damn, I wondered how it can be possible for there not to be a worldwide BBC iPlayer streaming service already. My folks would kill for that - Getflix is rather intermittent with iPlayer. Hopefully they're working hard now to make it happen. Given the nature of original BBC and ITV content, they are perfectly placed to have their own international service.

DStv subscribers are fuming after the news that MultiChoice will be dumping three long-running TV channels.

DStv said that soon there will be an announcement of two new channels to DStv. The first will be an established global brand and the other is a new innovative brand. They claim both channels will bring exciting new titles and genres that viewers will really enjoy.

Among the channels are shows like "Little Women", "Married at First Sight", "Intervention", "Homicide Hunter", "Curse of Oak Island", "The First 48" and "Live PD: Police Patrol" - which are favourites among subscribes, who are now threatening to cancel their DStv premium and Compact Plus subscriptions.

Some subscribers have started a petition on Twitter to stop DStv from removing the channels, saying that "these are amazing channels and very loved by SA DStv community. This decision is illogical and clearly shows they (DStv) only worry about their profits and not quality of shows for their customers", the petition read.
