Cape Town – Veteran journalist Max du Preez said he stands by every single word he wrote in his column alleging that there is a top secret dossier in a safe at SA Revenue Services (Sars} headquarters.

"I did not expect the present Sars leadership to do anything else than deny the existence of this dossier," Du Preez told News24.

"I have been a journalist for more than thirty years and I have never had to apologise or correct any of the pieces I wrote. When I write about a sensitive matter such as this involving among others the president of the country, I make doubly sure that I’m not just reporting rumour or innuendo.

"I have no doubt that the truth will surface soon."

Both the SA Revenue Services and the Secret Security Agency have denied knowledge of the dossier, saying the allegations are "baseless".

Sars spokesperson Luther Lebelo told News24 that, as far as he knew, there was no such dossier.

Du Preez wrote in the column: "Several billions of rands are at stake and Zuma would be extremely embarrassed if the alleged dossier were to be acted upon. It could well open him up to prosecution himself and/or to a massive income tax bill – at least for evading donations tax."

He further writes that the documents came about during Pravin Gordhan’s reign at Sars and were eventually handed to the new commissioner, Tom Moyane.

"I was told that the minister of State Security and Zuma loyalist, David Mahlobo, had personally involved himself with the safeguarding of the dossier," Du Preez reports.

State Security spokesperson Brian Dube, however, also denied any knowledge of the dossier and said the department would "not comment on baseless allegations".

Among the Zuma associates that were investigated by the Sars controversial "rogue" unit were super-wealthy businessmen Thoshan Panday of KwaZulu-Natal and Jen Chih "Robert" Huang, a Taiwanese citizen operating in South Africa, Du Preez claims.

News requests for comment from the Presidency’s Bongani Majola were still unanswered by the time of publishing.

That resulted in Pillay, Richer and fellow executives being removed by the new Commissioner Tom Moyane. Gordhan is so determined to uncover the cancer he went to war on the issue last week with his boss, President Jacob Zuma. The disturbing issue is why Zuma is staunchly defending Moyane at a time when so many people are thinking and believing the story my sources are sharing.

We can only pray this cancer gets exposed in full.

Among the Zuma friends investigated by the Sars controversial investigations unit were super-wealthy businessmen Thoshan Panday of KwaZulu-Natal and Jen Chih “Robert” Huang, a Taiwanese citizen operating in South Africa.

Huang is a close business associate of Khulubuse Zuma, the president’s nephew, and is a key middleman between South African and Chinese business interests. His company, Mpisi Trading, also stands accused of paying Swaziland politicians many millions. Netwerk24.com reported on 19 February last year that president Zuma involved himself personally in the settling of a R540m Sars claim against Huang. Huang has apparently on occasion flown from Durban to Nkandla with Zuma in an Air Force helicopter.

Huang supplied the ANC with R118m worth of T-shirts before the 2014 election, but the delivery was stopped by Sars because duties and taxes were not paid. The Mail & Guardian reported in December 2014 that this move “was one of the factors that fed into the leadership purge of SARS”.

A PriceWaterhouseCoopers forensics investigation alleged that Panday had paid vast amounts of money to senior police officers and manipulated tenders the police then awarded to his companies. Charges of corruption and bribery against him and Colonel Navin Madhoe were controversially dropped in 2013.

Off all the prize candidates we have, I really think and hope Rhamaphosa will be the best person for the job.

He has at least business sense and understand what needs to be done.

I guess he is about the best of a bad bunch. Definitely a long way from being the "savior of the economy" many people wish him to be though ....IMHO
I don't get this "business sense" thing that is attributed to him. If we were talking Norman Mashaba .... 100%; but Cyril Ramaphosa ... not so much

+1 ... any "businessman" who is a member of the cANCer built his empire with ill-gotten gains, that is a guarantee. The best we can hope for in the next #1 is that he/she at least ends up being a benevolent criminal, still better than the current malicious criminal.
