First off let me say that although I am born in SA I hold an EU passport I currently live in the UK for some time now.

My credentials include international recognized certifications through CompTIA and Cisco.

My qualifications are A+, Network +, CCNA, CCNP.

I often read the developments and legalities of the SNO and telkom, as well as their pricing plans.

With a broad understanding of the internet and costs involved, as well as working directly within this field I can advocate this.

There new pricing planes are nothing more than a response to ICASA’s report which classified Telkom as being completely unreasonable in their application of DSL. It is a spiteful move.

Granted DSL availability and speed is defined by distance from the exchange. Now on a technical note. The modulation on the phone line for DSL uses frequencies above the 0 – 4 khz which is reserved for standard telephone service. If a loading coil is used to extend telephone service (It does extend the phone service only) it distorts the DSL and makes it unusable. Now I know u wondering where I am going with this, well I believe that not only is Telkom DSL overpriced but they also incorporate this el chepo option of boosting the voice calls to longer distances without providing the much needed exchanges, and are incapable of providing a reliable DSL service as their exchanges are few and far between. As a company their view of growth is…. NONE.

To sum things up, this is terrible what they are doing to the county both private and public sector.

Thanks Nicknone1, and welcome as a member. Sounds like you could be an important contributer to MyADSL, and I look forward to seeing what more you have to post.
