Today's local newspaper: Front page.

Anyway, as I believe the article states, the email came from a couple of weeks ago. I know some women were threatened with rape and chased around, etc. which REALLY made me upset, but having come from campus a couple of hours ago, I can verify that things seem quite chill there at the moment. Strange lack of white people still, though, so obviously there's some large amounts of paranoia remaining. The results of the whole protest thing's starting to show. The main source of protesters, the first and second year people, the ones who aren't like me and the like who just want to get our degrees and leave, are running into problems as they missed a fair amount of class. I can't wait to see some of the test results, they're going to be dire

It's not my problem if the mods don't understand Afrikaans. They just asked for verification. ;)
As for the video... I don't think it was on, not because of the different races but just because of the age difference. What happened to respect your elders? Problem is, there's now this stereotype that everyone who's white on campus, are racist which is DEFINITELY not true. They're ruining things for everyone with their protests and the ANC's trying to take over campus now, having the top people dismissed, etc. etc. I don't care what happens, I just want my degree, which I should be getting at the end of the year, become worth less than toilet paper.

Afrikaans is a language too ;) If you don't understand it, walk past. If you refuse to read it, stay out of the thread. That comment was just idiotic of you ;)
 
I never liked Volksblad, they use proper Afrikaans and I struggle to fully understand it, however would it be fair to say that they can't find any evidence of the claims made in the e-mail?

The article has the email message in it, which originated during the peak time of the whole mess. It states that a female white student was stripped of her clothes and had to flee to her hostel. It also states that noone actually saw this happen. The article's more about the email being out of date, etc. But ya, the political mess on campus is just terrible at the moment. They have been protesting now about the poor quality of roads on campus. Not to be mean, but I have seen only a handful of black people there who actually have cars. The rest live on campus or make use of buses so don't need them. The streets have been in the process of being repaired since before the protest though. It seems that they are just looking for an excuse.

The troubles of that university have escalated into a mess.
 
I personally hope it doesn't grow any bigger than it already is.

This could cause big shyt, the correct side will win, but not without the cost of 1000's of innocent lifes and then just be back at square 1 back in the 1970's :(

This country should learn to move from things like this and let the parties involved deal with it, which was about 7 or 8 people right ?

Now it has escalated to such a point that there is almost no return.
