I need fibre installed in a complex in The Wilds, Pretoria. having zero success. Can only be via Telkom as ISP directly. Placed an order but it just stays in processing. Escalated it 20 times already....

Anyone assistance would be great.

Thanks!

Ask the neighbours how they got theirs.

That's highly unusual.

Not really, Telkom could’ve signed an exclusivity clause with the Body Corp for X years thereby limiting the open access

Is that even legal tho? Shouldn't I be given the choice who I want to be my ISP?

It's perfectly legal, its a mere contract between two corporate entities. Telkom undertook the infrastructure spend on the fibre installation, it belongs to them, it's theirs.

This would be akin to having Vodacom as a carrier on your Telkom fixed-line telephonic service, you don't have a choice.

What is the run-around excuse they giving you currently?

Nothing. Just nothing is happening. "I will escalate it for you" I have escalated it 100 times. So yeah, no idea what to do. Can't go with another provider because stuck with piece of **** Telkom there.

Hi There @extrusion

Trust you are doing well
Are you able to share your address information, along with some contact details for us to check your area for coverage. (Via PM)

Alternatively, you can navigate to https://coolideas.co.za/, enter your address, and select "Check coverage"

As per other messages, it's not very common for Complexes to be ISP locked as well, normally its only FNO locked if there was some sort of agreement.

Perhaps we can get you up and running with Coolideas?

The Silverlakes Estate is also locked, nothing unusual about that. No CI no Mweb, No Afrihost. Nada. How did you fill out an application? web app or phone call? I can send you a number of one of their contractors but I doubt he'd be able to get the Bnumber to get you installed. When did you apply? Telkom is usually 1-2 weeks if that

I think I managed to finally get a order placed via the telephone number for gated communities.
Can you perhaps PM me the contractor contact details ? That could help me going forward.

Thanks!

Thanks but no I am pretty sure it is only Telkom.
I checked on your coverage map and it only shows LTE. Only Telkom shows Fibre availability, all other ISPs show fibre not available.

Thank you for confirming. Hope you come right :)

Yeah so they will have an exclusivity deal with the HOA, your only option is to use Telkom and then you do have the ability to use a data account from another ISP which will work.
