No, the title of this blog is neither a statement of opinion, nor fact. It is the start to the following tagline you can find in the introductory video for Microsoft’s Bing search engine namely, “The world doesn’t need another search engine, it needs a decision engine.”
Now there is an interesting idea! The wait is over folks, well nearly, but the official title of the search engine makeover for Live Search has come out from under wrapping at Microsoft, where it has been labeled “Kumo” for quite some time. The introductory video can be found at www.bing.com and reveals the thinking behind Bing, be it not so new, but inspiring none the less.
It will be phased in next month over a very short period with some users of Live Search being treated to Bing results from the 1st of June 2009 and a full switch to Bing by the 3rd of June. Early looks at Bing when it was still known as Kumo showed that Bing really does have the esthetics down to an art. It looks pretty but I still get the feeling Google is better simply because it isn’t so overloaded with “pretty”.
Time will tell, but you won’t have to wait long now. Bing is around the corner and a massive marketing campaign (read prior blog) will make you remember it! In case you were wondering where the Bing naming news broke, Steve Ballmer revealed it all at the D7 conference in California over in the US of A.
