Xiaomi's first electric car, the Xiaomi SU7 created some stir just yesterday. Xiaomi is taking a leap into the automotive sector, and the recent spy shots of its long-awaited first electric car SU7's interior have heightened the excitement.
The Xiaomi SU7, slated for mass production in December 2023, has stirred interest with its sleek design and advanced technology. The recently revealed photos offer a tantalizing glimpse into its interior, showcasing a sizable central control screen and a distinctively styled three-spoke steering wheel with a flat bottom, equipped with two functional knobs. The SU7, a four-door, five-seater electric sedan, stands at 4,997 mm long, 1,963 mm wide, and 1,455 mm tall, boasting a wheelbase of 3,000 mm. The vehicle comes in two versions – one with LiDAR, installed behind the front windshield, and one without.
The SU7 comes with one of two powertrains: a rear-wheel drive (RWD) with a 220 kW motor and an all-wheel drive (AWD) with a maximum power of 495 kW (220 kW + 275 kW). The battery pack options are equally impressive, with an LFP battery pack from BYD for the more affordable trim and a ternary NMC from CATL for the higher-end model. The curb weight varies between 1,980 kg for the lower trim and 2,205 kg for the top trim, and the top speeds are 210 km/h and 265 km/h, respectively.

Xiaomi's first EV, the SU7, has already been outed by Chinese authorities through a certification process, and we've even seen the way its interior will look. Today, it's time to move past static images (nice as they may be), and so let's see the SU7 in motion.
It was spied on a Chinese highway, covered in heavy camo, but still obviously being the SU7. And moving. Not just that, but when the person capturing the video accelerated to get closer to it, the driver of the prototype figured it out and hit the pedal even harder, switching lanes to get rid of the impromptu paparazzo, possibly driving at more than 200 km/h to achieve that.
It looks incredibly good from the back even with all the camo applied, and that's no surprise really. The design is very nice, and according to the Chinese authorities, it will have a rear-wheel drive option with a 220 kW motor, a top speed of 210 km/h, an LFP battery pack from BYD, and a curb weight of 1,980 kg.

According to a source familiar with Xiaomi's internal operations, the company has already started the production line verification process for the new Xiaomi SU7 EV. The production kicked off last week and its target is to assemble 300 vehicles this month.
These vehicles are not meant for the end consumer, they are needed in showrooms and some Xiaomi stores around China. Also, the production process right now aims to iron out issues. Xiaomi already faced some production line problems and needed to seed new software update to gix an issue with the vehicle's systems.

With ambitions to rival the likes of Porsche and Tesla, Xiaomi's foray into the electric car arena may raise some eyebrows, but after a closer look, it seems Xiaomi has what it takes to upset the status quo.
The base Xiaomi SU7, standing for Speed Ultra, comes with promises to be a performance beast, drawing rear-wheel drive motor producing 299 PS output and 400 Nm torque. It does the 0-100km/h in 5.28s before reaching a top speed of 210 km/h. The CLTC range is 668 km.
The dual-motor version is dubbed SU7 Max and has combined horsepower of 673 hp (495 kW), and peak torque of 838 Nm. Xiaomi claims an impressive 0 to 100 km/h sprint time of 2.78 seconds, outpacing both the Porsche Taycan Turbo and Tesla Model S (not Plaid).
