The Xperia X1 Thread

Hi guys! Got the X1 on Saturday, I've used it quite extensively and have had no issues at all. Battery life is superb, phone's reaction to the touchscreen is the best I've experienced (have had iMate K-Jam, HTC TYTN II & HTC Touch Diamond).

Piesang, I think you've just had bad luck. The iPhone is really not a great phone, only a glorified iPod. I've read reviews everywhere and the only other phone that I would have looked at other than the X1 is the Nokia N97 (Only getting release Q3, 2009).

Then it must be real bad luck because I had 3 units and all 3 was OBF.

I havent made up my mind on what phone I want though. N96, N85 or what??????

Yep, tough choice. No current phone here has specs as cool as the X1. An X1 with the same specs but with Symbian would be even better than the bulky N97. Such a pity...

Its no good if a phone have those kind of specs but its unusable. I've had plenty of phones in my life and not one was as bad as the Xperia.

Piesang, haven't looked at the forum for a few days and just saw you gave your phone back. Don't you think all the problems you had with the phone had more to do with you than with the phone? I mean the first thing you did was try and reinvent the phone by installing everything but the intended software for the phone. (HTC software etc..)

I have had my phone for 2 weeks or something and have not had to remove the battery once since then. I am also a "power" user and use my phone to browse, email, wifi, skype, play games, 3G modem through my laptop, GPS etc etc.... and have had none of the issues you have had. My ring tone was also a bit soft initially but just changed it and upped the vol now I can hear it from outside, I installed other panels and other SPB apps (intended for the phone) and customised the phone to the way I like it and it's a great phone.

Just my two cents........;)

The HTC TF3D is just a application, not entirely new firmware so it shouldnt make a difference to the phones' performance. I installed the facebook panel. It takes about 10-20 seconds to load it then another few seconds to connect and eventually show your friends. And that is with using wifi and 3G. I installed other panels as well that I got from the Xperia site specially created for the phone. The panels itself are crap. You click on a panel and then it comes forward almost instantly but it's not the real panel, just a picture of what the panel look like, then it takes about 5 seconds to show the actual panel. What is the use of a great CPU and lots of RAM if everything is so slow?

The ring volume/loud speaker sound is terrible. It's way to harsh. Sounds like a tweater thats going to pop any second. I've tried different ring tones, my own tones etc.... I tried the loudest volume, still bad. Like I said, I had missed calls when I was in the shopping mall. I didnt even hear the sms, and I used a long one for sms as well. Vibrate was on too, but still no good.

And I mean, 3 phones, come on, do you really think that the problem was with me? I didnt even install TF3D on the 3rd unit.

Sony-Ericsson wont see me again. I'm utterly disgusted. Just remember, after 7 days you have to send the phone is and wait 3-4weeks for a new unit. That's why I sorted mine out within 4 days.

i was thinking of getting an X1 but Piesang is scaring me....

Nothing wrong with the X1, infact by far the best phone I've had, it's just a matter of setting the phone up in a way that works for YOU. No phone is gonna please everybody out the box and no phone is gonna be without gliches, but spend some time with the phone and set it up the way you like it.

My phone has not hung once and has had no need to do hard reset, and I've installed and deinstalled plenty apps.

Hi StevenM

I am feeling a bit stupid here, but how do you set up the Xperia as a modem with MTN?

thanks....is the GPS good?

Gps is excellent, picks up sats indoors (tiled roof) and in the car no problem and it's not even mounted on the dash. Works great with Garmin mobile XT and google maps with satelite view is really cool.

Just download MTN internet settings to the phone and install active sync on PC then switch internet sharing ON on the phone and that's it.

thanks....i think i'm gonna check what deal i can get with a 24 month retention on mtn autopage

oh ...just heard there is an X1a due out in January. Will there be major differences? must I wait?

Actually it would make a difference to the phones performance, these types op apps sit in memory and uses your phones cpu and ram. You can monitor this with http://www.freewarepocketpc.net/ppc-download-task-manager.html All these little apps that needs to run in ram will add up and make a difference to your phones performance.

X1a = for Amenrican market.

See:

The Sony Ericsson Xperia X1a is slightly different than the European version released earlier this fall, as it offers QVGA video recording only (as opposed to VGA) and lacks support for H264 video playback. However, the Sony Ericsson Xperia X1a will still support 3GPP video playback, which opens for YouTube Mobile videos.

So while, some European countries have already had their taste of the Xperia’s first version called the Xperia X1i, Sony Ericsson is set to release the Xperia X1 in the US, Latin America and Australia sometime soon, donning the model name Xperia X1a.

Don’t worry though, because the difference between the two Xperias were not really significant aside from their network configurations. The Xperia X1a will be capable of shooting videos at 24fps as opposed to the Xperia X1i’s 30 fps capability
All very confusing

Hi Guys

Also got mine on Sat and so far ok, being my first WM phone. I have installed a few apps but trying to keep it to a minimum. So far the X1 is naturally a little slower than my previous SE W900 but that is understandable.

Some of the programs that I have installed are
Touch Hd Keyboard
Torch
The above 2 u can find at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=441439

DivXPlayer http://labs.divx.com/node/6211

Still gonna play with the GPS, anyone know how the GPS software that comes with the phone works?

Anyone know how much Garmin XT sells for??

If anyone hears about new updates from Sony let us know.
