The Yellow Line Vanishing Act

Okay so the other day I get to my car and I see I have a fine for R300 for parking on a yellow line (long story is that there is no parking anywhere else in the vicinity). The traffic cops like coming down this road and fining everybody here because its easy money as they have no other choice but pay the fines and park there anyway.

The day after this I get to work and see that the municipality (or some other party) has blacked out this yellow line and it's no longer there. Do I have any grounds to get this fine dismissed and how would I go about this? Or should I just pay the 300 bucks and not make the effort to get this fine squashed?

I've done this before, but a slightly different scenario. I parked in a loading zone, and got a fine. This was in Stellenbosch. Then I want to the prosecutor with the fine, and told her that I was in fact in a parking bay, and not on a loading zone. She told me that she has no proof that I did park on a loading zone, and scrapped the fine.

Depends, how much is R300 and the time "fighting the fine" worth to you?

I'm sure with some effort you can get it squashed.

Well, I could buy quite a bit of pizza with R300, but then how hard do I want to work for that pizza

Just pay the fine. There was still a line when the fine was issued, so it's perfectly valid.

I would take a photo of the blacked out line, then send it with a letter to the authorities - it should be squashed.

Also surely they need proof that you parked on said line and that it was painted yellow at the time you parked there?
They could fight it and get the traffic cop who wrote the ticket and the guy who painted the line to come and testify but it's unlikely...
