"We will have it fixed by Friday the 25th of February come hell or high water"

I just saw the moved that date to the 12th of March.

Come 12th of March and they haven't fixed anything, or move the data again. I'm cancelling.

all wireless providers are the same.... just like women, they say they're different, but they arent

Noone, me thinks atleast they should have the courtesy to explain in full what is really going on in those two towers.

And it's not only those two towers. I received a 100% signal when I got the service a week ago. Now I get 30-60% at best with pathetic download speeds. I'm also cancelling. I'm sick of the instability of this service. Here I come Telkom ISDN (my area has no access to ADSL in PTA :( ).

The JHB International one when I'm in Benoni and the Sunny Park one when I'm in PTA. (These are just assumptions, is there a way to check?).

well may I just say... you are connecting to one of the best towers. However if you are in benoni you are probably 10 - 15KM away from the tower (which is right on the boundry). A benoni tower will be up by the launch so that might help you in your area.

Another thing I have noticed is that people in area's with iffy signals (Which would be you) just plop the modem down somewhere and thats that. Indoor signals are not always good anyways, never mind 15KM from the base station, so what you need to do is find your sweet spot. Make sure its connected in USB and open the iBurst Terminal. Now move it around generally till you have a place where you get 3 bar on the device and 50 - 60% in the terminal, try everywhere, high, low tweak the arial and once you find an area where you have that sort of singnal, connect to the internet.

Apon connection you should watch the signal jump.. and now in the area where you got you 50 - 60% signal while dissconnected, move the modem around by an inch at a time untill you get the best signal you can possibly get (maybe 5 bar on the device and 90%) and try have a file downloading (multithreaded download, not firefox or internet explorer) the whole time while doing this to max the connection so you can watch your line speed down. As soon as you find a peak, that is your sweet spot, NEVER MOVE THE MODEM EVEN A MILLIMETRE FROM THE SWEET SPOT. Although from where you stay i dont think you'll get over 700kbps, but you never know. Welcome to wireless.

Sentech had a sweet spot too.... this all is deja vu.... i'm in the twilight zone

I have a UTC device and I've tried various locations on our property. One the website it says that I will get approx 1MBs (I.E Excellent indoors). I'm also approxiamately 5km as the crow flies from the base station.

I'll try your advice though. Benoni isn't really a major concern. Pretoria is.

I'm sorry but how can you be in benoni and 5Km from the base station? The benoni border is at least 8. And the website never says you will get approx 1Mbit, it says up to, as in less than 1mbit more than 0. I can guarantee its not the tower, as I am downloading the suse 9.2 DVD iso right now at 134KB/s while surfing at high speeds (and have been pretty much constantly since the beginning of Jan except for the disconnections period). and I have no idea whats up with pretoria

Agreed . I am in Bonaero Park ( On teh way to benoni from the mast ) and I am allready 3.7 KM from the mast. There is no way you are only 5km from it if u are in Benoni.

I am also currently getting 120KBps from the Kempton tower at the moment.

I live in Benoni Small Farms. Close enough?

I take it you are using a UTC ? Have you tried getting a test antenna from WBS ? I have one , but do not have a cable tail for the UTC , only the UTD. You are welcome to test it if you can get the tail from them.
