hopefully heaven but probably hell
for people interested in My Wireless 128 and people with My WIreless here
are the true speed results of International Speeds taken at night 12am
when I think most people are asleep.

as you can see it is worse then a 28K modem... in some magical cases
I actually get some results which are proabably comparable to 56K modems.

Any international download comes down at an average of 1.8 - 2.2 Kb a modem.

Browsing speeds are a waste of time.

I have had a ticket open with Sentech for about a month and a half, and generally
get every story under the sun as to why it might be THAT slow. In all honesty
their service and support has been terrible. I have phoned them daily and usually
they just say it will improve... or they are working on it... or this is acceptable
or I could request a rebate... or do I want to cancel.

Not once has Sentech ever come with a solution to resolve this, nor have they ever
apologised to me or other Sentech users. I have been patient with Sentech as have
many others and you will note that some people are trying to fight the good fight,
others have perhaps seen the light and just cancelled and moved on, some have lost
hope... in reality I think Sentech if had the resources, time and money would have
fixed this month.

Since August until today my speeds have regressed. I dont bother phoning Sentech
nor do I bother taking their calls.

For almost two months Sentech have proved to me and I imagine many others that
they are NOT serious about resolving this... or simply ignoring me hoping I will
go away.

Its sad... really really sad that a company can get away with this and actually
rob so many people fo sooo much money monthly.

Tommorrow I am going to investigate other options for me cuz I am throwing the towel
in... but not before a huge big fat bang for Sentech... I will keep you posted
cuz I am sure alot of you would LOVE to participate.

Thanks to all who helped here and good luck to those of you whom still think
Sentech is going to improve.

Once final speed test before I log out? Eh why not.

Checking for Middleboxes . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . Done

Well there you go... I think the results speak for themselves.

Local is cool. 119kbs average. But what I need doesnt exist in co.za

Maybe I',m missing something here .. but shouldn't a 128k connection give you 16kb/s ?? which would mean that your results at the top of the post are more then your should be getting [?]

We are Telkom - Resistance is Futile - You will be Assimilated

Blob - 16 kb/s = 2 kB/s (b = bit, B = Byte)
I think you have confused bits with bytes. 128 kb/s = 16 kB/s

Out of interest, here's my international download history for the past two weeks (256k line).

http://www.tcpiq.com/tcpIQ/LineSpee...CountryId=196&ConnectionId=9569&UserId=137702

What I find interesting is that about two weeks ago I could actually hit close to 256kbps (as one can see from the left side of the graph). Yes, it was in the wee small hours of the morning, but it seemed that they actually handled contention properly. Then it got changed back to the 'shared' implementation from the looks of things.

Sentech and Telkom: The pupil surpassing the master

First off, 8 bits = 1 byte. So if you're downloading at 128kbps then it's really 16KB/s...

My speeds have been fine. Old tower: 82 Honeydew, now on 50 Honeyhills:

LOCAL (TELKOM):
Your line speed is approximately 93.2 Kbps or 11.4 kBytes/sec
( Where kb = kilobits and kB = kiloBytes )

INTERNATIONAL:
44.3 kilobits per second

This is at 13:00 during the day... not bad. On a 128kbps package.

I downloaded XP SP2 after 12 last night, took about 7 hours on my 128 Package (not 128K speed).

You think that's "fine" for R650/month? I don't. 44kb/second (about what I get for international too) is total sh*t. Maybe if it was R200/month it would be an OK deal, but this is just a big rip-off. Fast local does not make up for it: The sad fact is that 99% of the Internet is NOT in South Africa. "Slower than dial-up for 99% of the Internet and about 100kb/s for 1% of the Internet for R650/month" .. uh .. that's a really bad deal. The only thing that price compares moderately well against is Telkom ADSL, but that's a terrible comparison because Telkom ADSL is overpriced by at least a factor of four.

My 128 is totally rotten right now speed wise, but this morning it was flying along. Like I've said before, there is **** all continuity with Sentech. You can expect highs and lows on any internet connection - that's just the nature of it, but Sentech really does fluctuate so badly, it's pretty much useless.

Just tried downloading IP COP and was getting 2.8k per second.
Busy fetching it on my Hetzner account via SSH - got enough bandwidth left. So it's quicker for me to download to Hetzner and then download from there - so, that's 80meg of traffic off my Hetzner account, but I get to download at currently 13/14k per second. [:D] - freakin' crazy eh ?

Overall, I'd say I've been getting slightly better than a 56k modem, which isn't what I paid for. I accept that right now because I have no other choice - I have no landline (and I don't want one), so right now, it's Sentech or nothing. But next year, I'll see how IBurst shapes up.

So, I live with 5k average overall. Nice one Scumtech.

to be honest... if I was getting slightly better then a modem I would be almost satisfied... But anyone can suck my dick if they are trying to tell me 1.5K - 2.6K is fine for International. With my ole modem I wqould get a steady 4.5K...

And they can also suck my dick if they think I bought a R650.00 service for local only.

I am truly happy for them pigfyckers who have decent speeds... while others suffers
Where the fark is the consistency. How can some bastard get good speeds in one place and
I get **** speeds in another.

Thats all Sentech needs to fix now and then they would have happy customers.

But two months... speeds degrading... That a fast way to put yourself in the hot seat Sentech.
Cuz trust me your time is tick tocking away and if a certain person aint gonna contact me when they
said then let the games truly begin.

bb_matt, multithread your downloads, in my experience, you can suck up to 9KB multithreaded.

true dorris... I get up to 10Kbs using getright...

But sometimes... when I want to surf... well... lets just say its comparable to watching paint dry... but enuff...

multithread browsing? such a thing exist... anyone?
