I've just purchased a new Intel Core2Duo E6850 processor from Take2. What I'd like to know is, does it come with thermal compound/grease or do I need to buy some?

Thanks in advance.

My bad, I see I've (embarrasingly) posted this in the wrong section. Can a mod please fix?

Even if it does, then an aftermarket one would be better, and they arent very expensive.

Hiya Spaceman, :)

Done.
In future just click the Red Triangle Button (Report Post Button) and add a short note in the Message Box and The Mods will deal with it the moment we check our emails.

PS. The Antec Formula 5 Paste from Frontosa is OK.
If you can, remove the generic stuff and put on the Antec Paste.

Hey thanks for all the replies guys and thanks BTTB for moving the post.

I have already ordered Arctic Silver thermal compound from Take 2, but it only arrives sometime next week. My new processor arrives tomorrow. I don't want to have to wait until sometime next week to use it, hence the question.

So let me get this straight; a new E6850 doesn't come with thermal compound/grease, instead it comes with a heatsink with the thermal compound already on it? So I can just pop it onto my mobo and put the heatsink ontop of it?

Yep..The heatsink is pre applied.... I wouldn't bother changing it

It's the same thing as "Deep Heat"... you can get some from your pharmacy! :D
