Hey guys, does anyone know where i can get a tube of thermal paste such as arctic silver in jhb? I dont want to order online since i need it today.

Any help would be appreciated!

Ushir

where in Jhb are you? A lot of pc shops at the flea markets sell thermal paste.

Don't waste your money on that stuff it's just hype and infact silver is a bad conductor of heat. Normal HSC does the job well.

Its actually for my ps3 - the paste that sony applied seems to have leaked off and is causing problems with my hdmi so going to wipe it off and reapply. cfvh600 i live in sandton - know anywhere around here that sells?

I dont mind driving 20km if thats what it takes :)

the pc shops at the east rand flea market definately has. The bruma flea market should also have pc shops that sells it. Maybe there are places that are closer.

What of Maui Wowie are you smoking? I want some. I bet you are going to tell me that Diamond is the worst conductor. Drake2007, get your science books out and retake the test without money on the table.

LOL

Haha, yes, diamond is the best conductor of heat, 4x better than copper.

But thermal paste is actually not very good for conducting heat at all, it is better than air, and the thermal paste fills the tiny air bubbles where the heatsink is not in contact with the chip.

Wow, so 1000's of people in reviews and even their research lab must be wrong and you're right.

Hectic;)

Simple and easy test, buy a tube of that white kuk and apply it. Run CPU at 100% for 4 hours and check temps.

Do the same with Silver or Diamond nano and check temps.

lol guys - any other recommendations for a place in sandton? Esquire is a bit far for me to get there by 1

And lets just put that final nail in the coffin with regards to the hype from a few years ago.

OCZ bit the bullet and recalled their themeral compound. Turns out it's not really silver and it should be. Rather than grabbing their tail and leaving the compound market they are claiming to be using Arctic Silver 5 for their "re-labeled" new compound

Communica? Any electronic shop doing electronic/tv repairs or selling electronic components.

Sorry to bust the bubble. There are real differences between the white silicone compound and the compounds containing microcsopic size metal particles. I work with electronics and can confirm it is so.

Here is and interesting review for you to read.

It does not stop there. Polishing the CPU and Heatsink contact surfaces (the shinier the better) with waterpaper also makes a huge difference. Remember a huge differenc in electronic's may be less than a degree celcius.
