Hi all,

I've been out of the PC scene for a long time and recently bought a heap of new components to build a new PC.

I very stupidly took the fan off of the CPU to check if there was thermal paste on the CPU...didn't think to check at the outset.

Duh! :|

It was replaced immediately.

My question is...is it now damaged, or should I not worry?

If it needs to be replaced, do I simply clean the CPU and fan, and put in new paste, and if so, where do I buy some thermal paste?

Thanks, N.

If you do remove the heat sink of from the CPU, it might be a good idea to also replace the heat paste. You can buy heat paste from most PC shops. I've Arctic Silver at PC Worx. A good heat paste will make your heat sink more effective.

Oh please, I've been using a peanut butter and bovril mix for 10 years, never looked back! :)

Arctic Silver 5 for the win!

It costs around R100 if I can remember right. Not cheap, but you don't have to replace ot again. Unless of course ou take the heat sink off again

Using Arctic Silver on my CPU and heat sink as well. No heat problem...EVER:D

Thanks guys.

Can anyone recommend an affordable place to buy this stuff in the Kyalami area?

...and not ComputersOnly please. :) I refuse to do business with them.

Cheers, N.
