Anyone know of people in the country that know about or deal with materials that goes from opaque to translucent, or changes colour, at different temperatures? I have an idea for a product, but need an expert's help to see if it is viable.

I might even have my terminology wrong here. I could mean thermotropic.

I would suggest you start at Stellenbosch University ... They have a polymer sciences unit.

Thermochromatic polymers change colour with heat or light stimulus,
Thermotropic are liquid crystal and change opacity.

You could try Xena Chemicals in JHB or Sheppard (just cant remember who the distributor is in SA, but the guy I dealt with is Santosh Singh)

Thanks. Will give it a try. Still not sure what i am actually looking for, but speaking to someone in the know will guide me in the right direction.

I've seen this used in offices and houses. Boardrooms have glass windows and when you press a button the glass goes opaque for privacy.
