after waitng for 20 days to have my line installed , a guy came who tested my line , and told me it was of excelent quality , and that everything was ok and he will tell the uys to install the line for me , about 4 days later after instalation i started getting disscoencted , i have been trying to sort out this problem for over 3 weeks now phoneing telkom about 10 times a day ,and about 2 days ago they phone me and tell me they cant provide me with ADSL anymore couse my Upload speed is to low .
So i was just woundering all the money +- R4000 that i spent paying them and all the effort i put into getting this ADSL ,is it now my problem . and i must just loose money now becouse they said its ok at first but now its now , can someone please answer me how this works ?
 
this is just so typical of telkom. I think you should make a formal complaint with telkom at the following url ...

If they ( telskum ) do not respond to you with positive feedback, i.e. they will reimburse you 100% then, to my knowledge, you have grounds to lodge a complaint with ICASA.

How far from the exchange are you? What other devices do you have on your phone line?
 
I got anothere two phones , and a fax machine but iv dissconected everything to see if its any of thoes devices , but the reasult was the same ,i am only 3,5 Km away from the exchange . so thats not to bad ,i just borrowed one of the telkom routers for the night , and it works perfect now , it seems to be that the netgear DM602 is giving problems to many peaple , something should be done about this ,couse peaple right now are frowing away money
 
There are some Netgears that do seem to have problems with Telkom's ADSL implementation, your best bet is to get the DG814 or DG824M, they work great, they still up your attenuation a bit, but it should not be as bad as the DM602.
 
So, what is then better? Marconi or Netgear??? We bought a Netgear Dg814 on the recommendation of people in the forums............................
 
the DG814 should be great for your purposes, the Marconi's in comparison are crap. The DM602 seems to be having specific problems (constant disconnections) with the Telkom network, but my 824M has been working perfectly, as have the 814's of many other users.

Just spent today testing the D-Link 504G -
configuration gets a bit complicated - but initial set-up was easy.
Also the link dropped many times but after 5pm only one drop so far on a continuous download.
Found that once multiple computers connected the link dropped each time - that seems to have stopped now as well.

Consider the 604 because I'm told that the configuration is very much simplified.
 
I was unhappy with the Marconi for months. But the firmware "1.0.27L10-3A" which was installed in August works quite well. It reconnects when disconnected, including the daily IP address reset. Only crashes once a month requiring a power cycle.

Just make sure you change the root/admin password and delete the telnet user.
