Thin Client Modifications

Yes, it is a 512MB SSD, the plug directly onto the mother board. Here are some examples of them

With the HDD I plan to route the IDE cable to the other side of the board (past the CPU+NB) and mirror tape it to the mobo.

I had a 64mb one in the previous ThinClient I had. It only ran Windows CE. I used a 8gb Compact Flash <-> 44pin IDE adaptor back them to run Windows XP on it.

What I did notice was that the board seems to be very close to an ITX form factor so I might build it into a regular PC case, if the mounting holes match.

Those are actually 512mb DOM's not quite the same thing but similar.
I have about 1500 thin clients at various sites so I have done my share of modding over time.
Currently have one of the atom 1.8's running with an SSD and win7 on it for some arb testing stuff.

The 32GB DOM I just bought should be fine for Windows 7 Starter edition. I only have of these thin clients left and currently it has 1GB RAM and XPe running on it. The 1Ghz AMD CPU is too old for Windows 8 since it does not have SSE2/PAE/NX support.

I ran a 32DOM at one stage too, they are pretty slow though.
Fortunately the newer units Im using have a sata port for other drives.
They can be quite fun to find uses for though.
