thinapp and virtual machine software

Ok i am busy creating portable apps for usb sticks,I thought it would be easy but i see its a little pain in the A$$

Do i really have to install a virtual machine for this as i am using microsoft virtualpc,When i install xp on the vm i am getting bsods.
I also have thinapp installed on my pc and not in the vm.
Any other bright ideas i can try,virtual box looks a bit sh1tty
