Things fall apart at Eskom

Power utility Eskom has suffered yet another blow with one of its most outspoken board members, Business Leadership South Africa chief executive Busi Mavuso, reportedly resigning from the board with immediate effect.

Things have been falling apart for years, we are now just waiting for the pieces to settle

The board the board the board.

This the same board that has it's hands tied by the ANC the ANC the ANC at every step of the process of trying to fix the problems?

Politics need to stay out of this otherwise there will never be a board experienced enough to fix the issues.

Snot like she did anything while she was there

The whole board or whatever is left of it should just slink off into the sunset

Clearly not outspoken enough..

Oh no, they are losing an accountant. Whatever shall Eskom do?

That board needs:
University professors with specialties in heavy current electrical engineering
Representatives from the energy reticulation depts of the 3 largest metros in the country (Joburg, Cape Town, Durban).
The largest mining customers
The largest non-mining customers.

In other words, filled with either stakeholders or technical experts. It does not need nuclear physicists, immunologists and chemists.

I have actually come to the conclusion that the only way we would get Eskom working again is by giving it to a 3rd party, like the peoples republic of China to fix.

But they would need to have absolute full autonomy including security and punishment.

Eskom's acting GM for generation is a chemist, so having a board similarly qualified seems apt. And by the way, seeing as the CEO isn't an electrical engineer either or sector expert is in keeping with the board. It's bizarre how they chose that board. Makgoba has never been on a board outside of his specialised field.

Chief executive of the Black Business Council, Kganki Matabane...

“Our expectations weren’t even high, we expected him to stabilise the system – not even improve the system – just to ensure that it could be stabilised so businesses can have certainty and plan. He has not delivered on this. We include the board in this because the board’s job is to hold management to account.”

Matabane said that when you run an electrical engineering company, you need engineers. When the board is called to report on the company or hold the executive to account, they need to be independent, strong and knowledgeable enough to do that. However, the current board and management have shown that they are unable to do this.

Chairperson of the Standing Committee on Pubilc Accounts (Scopa) Mkhuleko Hlengwa said that the board has simply failed to do its job.

“Quite frankly, the board is out of its depth to turn things around. Problems continue under their watch, and things have deteriorated,” he said.

**** these guys. The board hasn't had half the people it needed to operate because of the ANC.

It has already been given to a third party. The ANC is completely disconnected from the effects of its policy. Hence why we are in the situation.
