I was curious about one thing in particular but thought a thread with the above title would be more helpful than one asking about just a single type of product. Also what isn't covered is probably a shorter list than what is so it might be handy having that list in one place, in plain layman english.

So anyway, the one I'm curious about is stores, specifically online stores, that sell video games but state that they don't or won't accept returns for whatever reasons. I'd like to know from someone who is certain about this if the CPA allows this?

From what, probably little, I know they can't refuse returns. In fact from what I know if it's a product you've paid for and had delivered (not had a chance to inspect before buying) you can send it back for a full refund with all costs/expenses being the responsibility of the company that sold it.

A simple example of this would be Take2.co.za stating they won't accept the return of PC (only) games.

i don't think the CPA can overwrite copyright laws.

Your example above is a difficult one.

How do the store owners/staff know you have not copied the disc or registered the key online?

In that regard a fine line of balance exists.

The CPA does clearly state in the right to return for refund that the product must not be opened or used.
So if you bought a game or disc and it is still sealed in origional packaging they have to accept it back.
Also the CPA has a specific clause if you buy a product or service as a result of direct marketing you are entitled to a full refund within 5 working days.

In terms of what types of business are exempt
Small municipalities (there are specific criteria)
Goverment is exempt
Insurance industry is exempt!
The private seller is exempt

Thats what I know about for now
