I have been impressed with Rain since it launched - that all changed recently.

For years I have been using the 3 SIMs I bought back when Rain launched, two on pay as you use and one on unlimited off peak. No problem

Recently I found the need for more SIMs so I bought some off takealot with the idea of turning off the unlimited off peak package they ship with. You can't. <- Rain does not tell you this. :(

So I was billed R1250 for 5 SIMs on unlimited that I NEVER USED.

I was told to cancel them and buy pay as you use SIMs directly from Rain. You can't <- The cancelled SIMs count towards your SIM limit of 10. Rain does not tell you this.

So beware. Rain might have good pricing on data but their SIM setup is absolutely horrible and makes no sense at all. They way they manage this is truly pathetic.

Please explain the above @rain_mobile

Hi, thank you for reaching out to us.

Please accept my apologies for the inconvenience caused. Kindly PM the email address linked to your rain profile for further assistance.

@OP, kindly advise of any resolution that you may have accepted after you have been in contact with rain.

No resolution thus far. I was told I only have two remaining SIMs with them. I will keep you all posted as I have spent a lot on this endeavor thus fat.

I don't know why companies come up with a good product but then create a bad name for themselves so nobody want to use them. This has made me think twice about using Rain. Their Rica process is so complicated, possibly the most complicated it can be, that it chased away a lot of customers.

I am now looking at capped products. Was surprised to see that I could now get 100GB on Telkom from Axxess for more or less the same price and it's only getting cheaper.

The online RICA was a breeze.

But their unlimited SIMS not beading able to downgrade and cancelled SIMs counted as actives - hell now.

I don’t understand this thread. When you receive the SIM, you need to activate a package, correct? At least that’s what I did with my Takealot SIMs, there was no package that they shipped with.

So you activated the unlimited off-peak at R250 on 5 sims but didn’t use them?

When you activate the SIM it activates the R250 package, there's no separate activations. You can't deactivate the package and go R50/GB. With the SIMs from Rain you can deactivate the R250 or have them on the R50/GB for when you want to use them.

Ah ok. So if you want a pay as you use sim, it can’t be from Takealot?

So this issue was not resolved.

Recently they removed coverage for Idas Valley in Stellenbosch, it's been like that for more than a week now.
