Things that irritate you - Part 4

An unnecessary acquaintance of my wife (strictly my nicest words) clicked on a link in a WhatsApp message from a so-called financial institution, got hacked, and was defrauded of a nice lump sum.

I am not upset about the hack that happened. To be honest, it comes as no surprise that this happened to such a nice person

The bit that irritates me is that in the modern world we live in, with so much knowledge about phishing and hacking like this, so many people like this are still gullible enough to click the link, and then still bitterly vent, and make those around them miserable

I know three people who have recently been scammed by vishing. One spent half an hour with someone from "SAA" who was installing a new SAA app (actually using remote control hidden by an "installing" interface); FNB blocked it, Nedbank did not. Another spent more than two hours with someone on the phone controlling her PC via Anydesk. And the last was a 23 year old guy taken for R40K... honestly, I thought young people didn't answer the phone?

Freakin companies that don't respond to their emails.

Trying to get info from a sales@ email address for something and nobody responds, sent their head office a message from their website contact form and nobody responds to that either - not even an automated response.

Before somebody goes "just phone them", yes I could but I like having a clear history of conversations to reference back to and I also hate talking on the phone. If you have an email address advertised on your website you should answer queries coming to it.

DHL kak.

Sent parcel to USA.
Held at USA customs.
Recipient phone number incorrectly captured.
No way for me to create an account to pay customs as the create account option only permits USA phone number.

...and now the 3rd person at DHL I've been passed over to. FFS how is something so trivial this much work. Is every company these days a bunch of clowns?

Yup. It’s called a crisis of competence. A feature of AA/DEI/BEE. Add offshoring of important systems to backward places and this is where you end up.

McKinsey will have also advised them that real customer service is a drain on OPEX and not to bother with it anymore.

"Please go to your nearest Postnet to pay. We've emailed them the info."

/drives to Postnet

They've received the email but fkall indication of how much I must pay. Now Postnet is on the phone to DHL being passed from one person to the next.

There goes half my day.

And now for whatever reason I need to pay Postnet in cash. (They need to pay customs and apparently card payments go through their system and cause issues. Idk)

/hunts down ATM.

What a joke.

That doesn't sound dodgy at all.

The one Woolworths I go to always has staff buying waste foods but for some unknown reason they always let the staff first at the tills. The other day 3 tills were open but staff were purchasing at all the tills meanwhile they has a queue or customers waiting to pay. Yesterday I was at the till trying to pay this guy walked up and stood at the till while I was still busy trying to pay. I haven't seen this at the bigger stores. This is the only store where the staff are more important than the paying customer

I have never seen this before in any store.

Ignore her. She'll invite you over for a sleepover & then ignore you when you knock despite you posting online that you'll be there at a certain time. At least the parking guards enjoyed the bag of chicken pies & lip gloss .

b***h

The fsck is this shite Youtube, not only do I have to manually force higher res, I have to now contend with this tiny little scroll bar that has absolutely no reason to exist in that menu.

I hope the guy who came up with this smashes his little tow on the sharp corner of a broken brick

I work in an open plan office. I choose to do it 3 - 4 days in a week. I am more productive there. My home office is a good alternative for a Friday. My clash is that Mon - Wed is so noisy when colleagues are there. Yep, we all need to do a minimum number of days in the office. But the noise is killing me. Unfortunately, people are not conscious of the impact of their volume in confined spaces.

I do love my colleagues and our wee chats. It keeps me grounded, in touch.

My personal critical challenge is the noise. Loud conversations on Teams (sometimes 3 happening simultaneously), banging mechanical keyboards, banging drawers, several conversations in person happening.

Yes, I am overly sensitive and all that. My headset I use for meetings is too basic and does not block out the noise in ears or on mic. It has reached a point that it impacts directly on my productivity, stress and anxiety. (My stress is starting to impact on my home life :crying: so it is grossly unfair to family.)

I have reached a point where I have two choices. Find and buy a headphone set (no matter the cost) with ANC and noise suppression for the mic --- or I need to find another desk away from my colleagues that is quieter, less distracting, and risk them thinking I am a snob.

/moan off :(

For Chrome, Firefox, or Edge PC browsers, you can install the 'Enhancer for YouTube' extension, which lets you set default resolutions for either full-screen or windowed playback, as well as a host of other customisations (like hiding Shorts) as well... ;)

Download link here.

Nobody ever got back to me from this company, so just took my business elsewhere.
