Think I just got scammed..

Hi,

So I got a call from a debt collector and during the three calls, they would just call.. Ask to speak to Mr X and if I was him. First two times the line dropped. The last time I said yes
Now I had heard of a scam from the collectors where they record you saying yes, to agree to some BS debt so they can collect.

Is this something that actually happens? Any way I can get around this? I don't owe the company *****.
