thinking about changing ADSL line back to Telkom

Hi Guys,

I just want to find out if you change your ADSL line from one ISP to another (or back to Telkom) do they actually change Dslam's or any of the physical hardware or is it just an admin function?

I would think not but when I first got ADSL, I got my ADSL line through my ISP and did not seem to have any issues with the line. The line had to Sync at 3Mbps instead of at 4Mbps but this is no problem as long as the line was steady and stable (of which it was at that time). I then moved over to another ISP and moved my ADSL line across with them. It seems that since then I have had major issues with the line where my attenuation is very high and my line keeps dropping. I have logged a number of issues with my ISP but it seems to no avail. the other strange thing was that on my router settings the line speed readings of the old ISP was in bytes (3096) where as my new isp has it shown in bits (309600). Is it just coincidence that this is happening at this time or does Telkom have preferred port or Dslams for their clients?

Just move your line back to Telkom and keep it there.

There's a reason I always tell people to keep their lines with Telkom, but they never listen.

Keep your line with Telkom. Look what happened with TRLtech/Cybersmart, customers had their lines cancelled without their permission. The risk you're taking letting an ISP take over your line doesn't stack up against the small amount of money you're saving.
