Thinking about getting a bike.

How many of them were idiots who caused it themselves?
Does it matter? Hospital is hospital.

Look its a decision everyone needs to make for themselves. I'm just saying for me its an easy one - lots of carnage combined with the realisation that I likely wouldn't escape the stats even though I generally do quite well on the not being an idiot front.

Pity really because I know I'd enjoy it.

You seem really level headed about it at least.

But do you think your comment in this thread was really warranted, on topic and constructive?

It's not really any different from telling smokers that smoking is bad for them. They know, telling them so won't make any difference, but will sour the mood.

Got my bike in Feb after begging and pleading the wife. Crashed it in July and sold it last week. From my short and expensive experience I would say if you want to ride a bike make sure you are ready for anything and everything that the road will throw at you. I came from riding off road and I thought the road would be somehow easier.

Cars will not see you, that's just something we can't control. The roads in jhb are hectic with regard to potholes, oil etc. And make sure you wear gear. I get shivers when I see these hero's in shorts and vest.

From a personal perspective I'm done riding bikes. I've been lucky but when you out there you realise that can change in a instant.

Been wanting to get a bike for a long time, i have a Yamaha wr250f and i enjoy the hell outta it, but i want to be on the road. at first i thought of the Duke 390. its nice and small with abs which is good since i'm 1.67m tall. later on decided the 390 won't be enough to keep me happy for long enough power wise, and that buying new would not be worth it. now i don't know what to do..

Have you had a look at the Yamaha MT-07?

I'm planning on buying a second hand 300cc Kawasaki Ninja as a starter bike because the second hand 250cc CBR Hondas are as scarce as a non-corrupt political government.

Any thoughts on this?

I am going to pay R10 000.00 more, but that extra few cc's are probably a better investment on a bike you intend to learn on.
