Thinking of going X-fire....

Why do you want to go xfire or upgrade? I doubt games are lagging with your 5850? Must be CUD :p
you wont see much performance increase with 2x5770 over 1 5850. maybe in a few titles where the minimum fps might increase. But it's pointless to upgrade if you getting 80+ fps with your 5850 to getting 90fps with the 5770's, you wont see any difference...

The gx chipset gives a slight bottleneck to two 8580s as you'll have 8x lanes each. I say just stick with your 5850. Wait for the 6series.
 
Ya I'd also wait for the new series. Now pending benchies and pricing of course they might be a good buy but the 5xxx series will most likely decrease in price, making them also quite attractive. So I'd just wait a little and see.
