MS Office won't work - it is a windows application. The linux equivalent that Mint includes is Open Office. I forget the name of the Powerpoint analogue (Presentation?), that may be able to do what you need it to do. OO can save to MSOffice formats.

What make PC, and most nb, what wireless card does it have?

Have to agree here. For 99.99% of people OO, will do everything that you want it to do.

Graphics card, network adapters, and any other strange hardware are also important to know about.

Windows vista home Basic

The only program that I need to work on mint is MS Office 2007(need Powerpoint)....will it work on Mint7?

As stated Powerpoint won't work natively on Linux. However, apart from the open source alternatives, there are workarounds.

One option is the paid for Crossover Office. I haven't used it so I can't comment on how well it works. It costs $40.

Powerpoint 07 receives a bronze rating.
Powerpoint 2003 receives a silver rating

Other options include Wine (essentially a free version of the same thing).

The last option is to install a Virtual Machine like Sun VirtualBox and install Windows XP. This will allow you to run Powerpoint from within Windows from within Linux. Note that this requires a valid version of XP to work.

I found it did strange things to me. For instance once when I booted up, GDM had removed itself (really weird). Apart from that I found it crashed occasionally.

Maybe it was just me, and maybe my install was buggy but that was my experience. Went back to Ubuntu and was much happier.
