Why the hell would i get these speeds during the day? i've downloaded 3GB for the last 3 days? plus the site says "Un-throttled "

If anyone can assist or give advice please do..

Jeez... Those line attenuation stats are a bit rough... How stable is the line other than bad speeds?

"SNR Margin
In general, a higher signal to noise ratio will result in less errors.
6bB. or below = Bad and will experience no line synchronisation or intermittent synchronisation problems.
7dB-10dB. = Fair but does not leave much room for variances in conditions.
11dB-20dB. = Good with little or no synchronisation problems
20dB-28dB. = Excellent
29dB. or above = Outstanding

Attenuation Rates
In gerneral, attenuation is the loss of signal over distance. Unfortunately, dB loss is not just dependent on distance. It also depends on cable type and gauge (which can differ over the length of the cable), the number and location other connection points on the cable.
20bB. and below = Outstanding
20dB-30dB. = Excellent
30dB-40dB. = Very Good
40dB-50dB. = Good
50dB-60dB. = Poor and may experience connectivity issues

60DB. AND ABOVE = BAD AND WILL EXPERIENCE CONNECTIVITY ISSUES

Distance
And for distance, the equation I have seen suggests that downstream attenuation divided by 13.81 will roughly equal KM from the exchange. For example; if you had a downstream attenuation of 40dB...

40dB / 13.81 = 2.896 KM

For me, 17 / 13.81 = 1.2KM"
For his modem you have to divide by 10... I still don't get why people don't know this?
Therefore his stats are 39.5 attenuation downstream and 21.1 upstream.
It can't be his line, PM Mweb Guy and ask him to re-auth your account. Try reseting your modem a few times. I've been having the same issues with MWEB lately..
Try sign up for a free 3 gb from Axxess or Webafrica and see if it changes the issue.

I've had this exact problem for weeks now. I have multiple ISPs which I have tried and non make a difference. Have asked Telkom to reset the port, nothing changed.

Sometimes (read: rarely) I get decent speeds, but most of the time I'm clocking 0.3mb/s (on a 2mb line). I can't watch youtube videos even on 240p.

Strangely other things, like torrents, will get up to full speed. And my ping, locally and internationally is fine. Its literally just speed?

Anyone else have any ideas?

Hi djbrendan

That does not look good at all.

Provide me with a trace route to a local and international site.

Hi There,
If it is good on the Telkom guest account and on another ISP such as Afrihost then the issue has to be with Mweb.

If you don;t like the attenuation and noise then you can try Telkom to improve that for you

Regards

Tim
