Category : Products & Services Name : alexander Email : [email protected] Tel : 0824481725 Comment : I have noticed a certain opinion being made on a telkom website that ADSL is meant to be used for surfing the web , how can this be ? everybody knows that the point of getting a 'broadband connection' is to download large amount of information i mean who cares if they surf the net at 64kb isdn or 512k which is allot more expensive ,i..... it didnt finished here .

They reasponce was somewhat in a way disturebing the fact that they agree with me .

dear Sir/Madam,
Your SAIX Fault/Query has been resolved. The resolution description follows: Alexander, DSL can be used for both, but you are 100% correct DSL should be for the people that need the Bandwith. You are thus correct in your statement. Regards Thys.. Thank-you SAIX HelpDesk 0800 222 772

There is an important aspect that makes ADSL a very good "surf" technology. If I spend a lot of time reading documents, I don't have to run up a telephone bill while I am doing it. The connection is always there and "Always On". The original intention with ADSL was to pay for the actual data you receive, not the time you spend on the internet. That is what is nice about broadband technologies, they don't carry idle time into the network.

In the way ADSL is implemented locally the above is still valid but the cost is so excessive on a monthly basis that you can just as well run up a telephone bill to do the same. That is why I believe there should be different packages of which one should favour the so-called "surfer" or researcher who doesn't need high bandwidth and huge downloads, but who doesn't want to pay for the time spend reading documents.
