The past 3+ months there have been 3 occurrences of cable theft in my area in my area which leaves me with no ADSL, the cycle is basically: cables stolen; takes telkom 2 - 3 weeks to replace cables, 2 weeks of service, cables stolen and repeat

On a serious note why not set up a neighbourhood watch/ forum thing, patrols etc.

Seems clear that a 3G connection is required.

I feel your pain, it's happened in my area twice but luckily we caught the guy. Gave him a solid bliksemming & off to the cops he went. It hasn't happened ever since.

It won't carry on for long. Telkom will refuse to install new cables soon.

Geez, that sucks It's true that Telkom will never replace cables if they get stolen more than once. I think it depends on whether Telkom can afford to stop providing services in your area.
