This is how to fix SA’s terrible broadband

This is the first article that contains a realistic average speed 3.3mbps.

Don't be fooled. I stay in an area where 10mbps is available but more than 2 km from the exchange the average is .... 3.3mbps. So the improvement from 4mbps to 10 mbps means zilch.
 
I said it before and I'll say it again. Switch off old inefficient technologies like GPRS and EDGE. Have an incentive for people to turn in older device. Telcos could do a lot more to boost internet speeds.
 
The problem with SAs fixed broadband is lack of planning and foresight .
ICASA and Telkom are guilty of both .
Problem is the people running those organisations cant see this .
The race at the moment is on to cherry pick the lucrative areas for fiber , there is going to be blood on the ground from this race .
Proper intelligence driven planning is key to success .
No good putting fiber in areas that people cant afford it or dont want it .
