Read the last paragraph!

They cant be in talks with Sentech surely? They've already chosen their technology ....????

Could they be talking to telkom????

[}:)] <- Thinks the plot is thickening

I can't see that happening. 5 miles is around 7km right? So thats similar to IPWireless... what would the advantage be?

Lots of hits here: http://www.google.com/search?q=iburst&sourceid=mozilla-search&start=0&start=0&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8

ProAsm, Rodent is this the same tech that Sentech is using for MyWireless???

[}:)] <- Wants to know

It's using TDD/TDMA, which is actually a bit worse than TD-CDMA.

Aside from the normal single frequency TDD send/receiving timing, all other devices get assigned 6 slots per swoop, in which to send.

So it's using time for the send/receive domain, and time for giving each user a share at the base station. The latency on this will be even more phenomenal.

CDMA is superior to this IMO, but definately more complicated.

Taking its cue from the successful Australian trial run, ArrayComm said it is in talks with wireless service providers in South Africa and Mexico to launch iBurst networks in those countries.

They wont be talkin very long due to the restrictive licenses in SA [:D]

Also, anyone wanna ring them up and tell them about the ping situation. The marketing mumbo jumbo aside.. its probably the same system or very similar to IPWireless. Maybe a direct competitor. We have 3Mbps anyways [8D] well not quite..

Well regardless of whether the technology is better or not the point is they seem to be talking to someone in ZA. Given that Sentech has already settled on their technology ... they must be talking to Telkom?? No one else has a license for this sort of service in ZA?

May be they are talking to the potential 4th cellular licencee [?]
It looks like some kind of cel service.

Cheers
Chris

<br />I would bet that either Vodacom, or MTN are looking at it at least. But talk, is just that. Talk. It might mean they've had a sales meeting with someone in .za

"Talk" may also mean that they are simply consulting on e.g. implementation advice.
