ADSL price war starts in the Netherlands; will drive future growth
Monday September 1, 2003
Three Dutch ADSL providers, Zon (Versatel), Het Net (KPN Telecom) and Tiscali, have introduced new ADSL products for less than EUR 20.00 per month.
These introductions come after the launch of two cheap cable Internet offers of @home, a Dutch cable ISP, for EUR 17.95 per month and Wanadoo Cable Easy for EUR 19.95 per month.
Wanadoo, Freeler and Planet Internet (KPN) did not lower their prices like the three above, but they reacted by offer free installation, modems and/or spam and anti virus software, while Demon, XS4ALL (KPN) and HCCnet did not react. Of the three new offers Het Net has the best coverage, but Tiscali wins on offered functionality, while Zon has the least attractive offer, although it looks the cheapest.
With the introduction of cheaper ADSL products the growth of ADSL connections will accelerate. The ADSL boom of last year can be attribute to ADSL Light as 73.4% of the new connection were ADSL light subscriptions.
