I have had ADSL for about 1 year now, received my accounts pretty regularly and they always seem to be between R1050 and R1100.
This month i did not receive any account, but not a problem, i just go and pay electronically on the required day R1100 as this is the highest my acount has been in the past year. then 10 days later i get a SMS saying i still owe +- R400. Not wanting to be cut off, i decide to pay this(on the 16th of November) and sort it out when the next account arives and i can see whats up.
Then this weekend (friday the 21 Nov) i get a computerised call to my land line informing me that my account is overdue and that legal action will be taken and that if i have already paid i need to phone this number 101** to clear it out within 48 hours or my line will be cut off and i will be liable for reconnection fees. This was at about 6pm on Friday night. So i call the number and i get a "This service is only available during office hours" for the rest of the weekend!!!.
I was heading out of town on business for a week so this is still not resolved, and i bet that when i get back next weekend my line will be cut[:(!]

Anyone else have any hasstles with their October accounts?

My home account and the office accounts are okay, so I guess you will have to take up with their accounts department.

Good luck.

Similar happened to me many months ago on my normal telephone account.

I believe the legal position is as follows:

You have to proof that you paid.

Telkom has given you ample warning that you service will be disconnected of you don't pay (or prove you have paid) in time.

If your service does get disconnected you will be liable for all reconnection charges and legal costs already incurred.

Moral of the story: Postpone your trip and persuade Telkom you did pay. Else it could cost you a fortune as well as an entry in the credit bureaus blackmailing list.

Best of luck knocking sense into moron heads! It took me many hours of telling them I had a receipt printed by their computers while they maintained that according to the computer your account has not been paid.

And yes: Walk in and shout at the top of your lungs that you want to see the manager NOW because it is unsafe to pay you account etc etc. Make a show - else you will not get anywhere within an hour. That was what I had to do in the end - tell the public that Telkom stole my money showing each and everybody the receipt. They called security and I told them I wanted to see the manager. Funny, the rest of the public protected me :-)
