Hi everybody!
I'm sure some of you have seen this deal in the VodaCom Chatz Connect leaflet, a HP Pavilion dv6 62140EI laptop on MyGig 1 with that pretty new red modem :) The bundle also includes a mouse, bag, AVG 2011, Microsoft Office and a printer :) for R599/month.

The specs for the laptop as printed on the pamphlet:
  • Intel i7 Processor
  • 750GB Hard drive
  • 4GB Ram
  • Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit

I just wanted to hear your opinions on the laptop, because I'd like to play games like CoD7 on a laptop, while having a lot of space for movies, ISO's, iPod apps, etc.. Does anybody know what sort of graphics card it has? I probably wouldn't be interested in it if it had less than 1GB of graphics memory.. Also, how good is the 3G in Durban?

Thanks :)

AVG 2011 is rubbish, AVG in general is total rubbish, the Microsoft Office is most likely a 60 day trial which after you must buy anyway.

I highly recommend you rather get a Pc.

The laptop specs are pretty decent if it's just a 1 year contract, if it's 2 years or more you are getting ripped off.

Yes, it will be a MS Office home/student or professional trial for 60 days.
iPod apps? :p

A friend of mine's laptop has the 230M in I think. It's pretty darn slow. For today's games at least.

@Nommies
Probably not a 12 month contract.... i7 and 12GB for R599 (R7200) would be a bargain. Chances are it's 24 months.

Yeah not sure what I was thinking, and it's 4GB or ram not 12GB :P so R14400 for a laptop and 1GB of 3G data per month? probably not worth it imo.

12GB of data in total (assuming 12 months) ;)

The thing is, I'm not paying for it ;) Also, I wouldn't use the AVG or the MS Office seeing as I can just download the crack for Office and I have Kaspersky ^_^

But it's free! :D

too bad IBM doesn't make thinkpads anymore - the old x31/x40/x60 series were light and tough and had full-sized keyboards where you didn't have to press the FN key to activate the HOME or END or PAGE UP/DOWN buttons...

Lenovo took those over after they bought out the product.
Soon HP will be in the same boat, just like IBM, HP is also throwing the hardware into the water and going pure software.
